Hi we have a sick piggy who is not eating, we took him to vets and they think bladder infection, he is on antibiotics and pain relief but seems to be going downhill. Husband and i are syring feeding, giving liquid too but cant imagine he would go like this without another cause. He is now wobbky on his back legs not wanting to move. Which i fear is not a good sign.
He is 4 1/2 and we kove him so much. His parther keeps going to him too. Should we go back to vets? Anyone got any suggestions? He started his meds yestrrdsy but i think he has gone downhill. I'm worried

I’m so sorry your boy is unwell. I would seriously consider having him seen again given the rapid decline you describe.

Have you switched to weighing him (once) daily? Has he lost weight, and if so how much? And roughly how much syringe feed are you getting into him in a 24 hour period? You need to be aiming for minimum 60ml in a 24 hour period when they are not eating. I will link to some guides below.

Please can you also give details of the antibiotics and the painkiller. Is the latter dog or cat and what is the dosage?

Hopefully someone with more experience will be along soon to answer you more comprehensively. I’ve got everything crossed that your boy pulls through.

Welcome to the forum. I’m sorry your piggy is unwell. I’d get them seen again. Good luck.

I’m sorry to hear he is unwell.
Please do get him back to the vet urgently if he is deteriorating
I hope he is ok

I think you should take him to the vet again. If you are worried about the syringe feeding and not eating part maybe you can try critical care, which is a food mixture and can be easily fed through a syringe.. I really hope he gets well extremely soon. Best wishes for him :(

Hi and welcome

I am very sorry about your problems.

Please have him seen again by the vets as soon as possible and checked for a potential bladder or urethral stone. Boars have an awkward inglenook in their urethra where a stone often fetches up and can at worst block the flow of urine with fatal consequences. Hence the urgency.
Also have him checked for heat stroke or heat exhaustion, which can also cause full or partial gut stasis and loss of appetite as an alternative possibility for his loss of appetite.
Either condition is serious. If you can, please try to have him seen today.

Please step in feeding support immediately. Your feeding home care can make all the difference in the outcome in getting a piggy through a crisis. No medical treatment can work if a piggy's body is closing down from lack of feed since they cannot afford to fast.
