Hey, my guinea pig Galibi has been making this strange noise for the past two days. Its like this low screech/moan?
Anyway, some background info:
I was on here about a year and a half ago about mites, thankfully she's okay now and the vet gave her medicine that would even prevent another infection.
I switched her to fleece bedding about three to four months ago. I'm going to be honest: i try to change it at least once or twice a week, but sometimes i fail. Anyway, thanksgiving break came and i changed her cage last tuesday. I just change it today, so I've been a terrible pet owner. Usually she's okay but i noticed most of the stuff i was cleaning up today was food she knocked out of her bowl. Usually she'll go ahead and eat it anyway. There wasn't a lot of poop in her cage either.
But since about yesterday I've noticed her making a low screeching sound at random. She's drinking fresh water but she doesnt seem very excited about her fresh food. I gave her treats this morning because she still had some food from last night in her bowl (i feed her a half cup of food every day by the way).
Her winter coat seems like its coming in and it is getting colder out, so maybe this is just a result from the changing weather? I've heard the winter is supposed to be bad in west virginia this year, and my room usually gets cold.
The thing is, if i put food to her mouth she usually starts eating it but she refuses to now....
I'm giving her a bath today (she usually gets one every month), I'm hoping that'll help. I've had a lot of stuff going on, and i know that's no excuse, but i feel awful and i dont know if something is actually wrong right now or if its just some sort of mood she is in.

It sounds to me that she is unwell and needs to see a vet as an emergency. Search here on this forum for advice and explanation about syringe feeding if she is refusing food as Guinea pigs need to eat to keep their digestive systems working

I gave her a bath and she is acting a little more like herself. I'm gonna try and get her to eat right after she is warm and dry. Hopefully that helps and if she still has a full bowl of food in the morning I'll tell my mom

Update: i got her to nibble a little bit on a treat but i basically had to force her. I put her back in her cage and every once and a while ive heard this very high pitched scream. Ive never heard her make a a noise like that and it scares me. She's drinking and i think i heard her eating a little bit, but i turned my light off so idk for sure. She freezes as soon as i turn it on to see if she actually is eating

She is also almost three. I know guinea pigs live about four to eight years or even longer sometimes. Old age possibly? I seriously doubt it tbh

Oof, alrighty. I'll talk to my mom in the morning. Its way too late to see if the one vet that takes guinea pigs here is open rn. Thank you!

Yes I agree with the above- as soon as you and your mum are able to see a vet please do. Any difference in a guinea pigs appetite is slightly worrying.

You really need to get her to a vet as soon as possible.
It sounds like she is in pain and she may have an infection or injury.
Do you weigh her?
Weight loss can be a good indicator of an underlying problem, so if she isn't eating normally then chances are she is ill or in pain.

I hope you can have her seen soon.
