My oldest boar Little Bear currently has a habit of staying in one particular house/spot, going potty in it and making a mess, and continuing to remain in that area and sleep in it. He has a clean house/bedding right next to his prefered house. I changed his bedding this morning and came home to his preferred house as an abolute mess and he has been sleeping in wet, pee-soaked bedding the whole day. As for poop he has the talent of piling poop in a neat pile in a corner. He remains in this house so much that I literally don't have to clean other parts of the cage for days. In November we had to pts his brother, so he has been alone (his cage is next to my other boars however) and he is coming out of grieving.

We are adopting a new friend Dec 26 so I am _hoping_ this stops. Is there anyway to stop him from such behavior for both our sakes? He does come out to the other side of the cage to eat, will run around a bit and then go right back to his dirty house.

He obviously has his favourite area to sleep. All you can do is spot clean his favourite bed and ensure the bedding is refreshed a couple of times in the day.

Both of mine do this, I’m forever cleaning their bums and I spot clean once to twice a day. I think they are just lazy 😫 They do it in their cage and in their free range hideys.

Nervous George hides a lot with similar effect so we just have to make sure his bedding is really absorbent to prevent urine scald. Since he got the two girls next door he's been more active and I find patches outside the house but he's still the easiest to clean up after! George is mature but not elderly and has a tendency to impaction when he gets stressed so I'm happy to see the 'poop hoard' if it's all looking healthy. The family call him 'Captain Pigwash' and say he's hiding his treasure!

Maybe make some pee pads and change them out daily? Or noodle bath mats. And make sure any fleece wicks properly.

Oh and I for got to say that they swap houses and sit in each other’s poops too... yuck!

He has throw-away dog pee pads under his bedding that get soaked fast. We'll be upgrading to a c&c cage once we get the new friend, so I've been looking for (smaller) washable pee pad options.

I have dirty boys like that. I change those areas twice a day to keep them clean x

I have two like that (different cages), one has the excuse of being elderly the other is younger and a prolific pooper. The young one is also white so often walks aroud with 2 brown streaks across his rear end. I clean their beds out at least twice a day mostly 3 and use small squares of vetbed layed on top of a thick layer of newspaper to help stop urine scald on their feet. Boars will be boars!

Update to this, I have since upgraded his cage to a c&c in preparation for getting his new brother tomorrow. The set up came with fleece. Both this pig and my other boars value their fleece areas and have been pooping out of the way (like in a corner), or they will push the poop out of their houses. I thought this was some strange behavior given they never tried this on old bedding (both paper and a washable, fleece-like pee pad).
