Hi, I’m hoping for some info from you lovely people. I have a 4.5 year old female pig (Tilly). A couple of months ago she started drinking a lot more than normal and losing weight. I took her to the vets and the vet as a first measure wanted to monitor her weight over a month. Over the month she regained her weight so the vet gave Tilly the all clear. Teeth etc were checked but no bloods.
The last couple of months she has maintained her weight but still very thirsty all the time and always seems hungry no matter how much I give her. This last week she has suddenly lost 160 grams (down from 700). She looks very thin. I rushed her to the vets and the vet was useless. Clearly doesn’t know about guinea pigs. So I’ve got a referral for a specialist I’m seeing next week. Tilly is still eating (always seems hungry), there doesn’t seem to be a problem with her teeth as I’ve watched her eat, she’s drinking loads but lost so much weight. Has anyone had a piggy with similar symptoms, any idea what was wrong? I’m seeking advice before my vets appointment so I can be as informed as possible and know what tests she might need- I don’t want to unnecessarily put her through lots of tests as she’s a very timid piggy.
Just in case relevant, she’s lived with her litter mate all her life who is very healthy. I give them Timothy and meadow hay, pellets and veg, salad and fruit
TIA
