piggy health insurance

Does anyone know if there are any pet insurance for piggies? when i last looked it was about £120/£150 a year which was silly money.

I wondered about it too but couldn't find any insurance for piggies.

I know! It's so annoying - I seem to be forever at the vets with my lot. They do it for bunnies - why not for piggies?! I think the insurance company you mention only does it for a large stock - ie if you are a breeder

there used to be a company who did piggys from 20 upwards but I dont think they do it anymore, it was always advertised on the back of cavies magazine

However, just a word of caution, I've looked into insurance for my various pets (including piggies) and realized it isn't worth it to me. When you find one look very carefully at what they cover and deductibles and that sort of thing. The ones I found when I was looking don't cover everything your pets need and have deductibles that are higher than a regular office visit. It didn't take much to figure out unless my pet got hit by a car and nearly died (which is unlikely for any of my creatures as they live in the house and don't go out in the street especially the rodents) and had to have thousands of dollars worth of surgery or something similarly devestating, I was still going to be paying for all my vet bills and the insurance every month (which wasn't bad looking until I realised how much it would add up to each year and how much it would add up to each month for ALL of my pets to be covered : $255 a month; $3060 a year was one of the cheaper places). Unless you can find a really good policy that will cover nearly all vet expenses with little or no deductible and only have a few pets, it may not be worth it. Personally, I went to Walmart and bought a little piggy with a stopper in the bottom and shove $25-$50 (sometimes more) into him every month for my vet bills. Then it's there when I need it and can be used on any pet, not just the one whose name was put on a policy. For regular, less expensive bills I try to not touch piggy unless I have to. He is for emergencies that I can't afford without him. He was useful when Little Soli got sick and again recently when Lassie became anemic. Anyway, that's just a suggestion if you can't find a suitable (or any for that matter) insurance company.
