I just found Leia has a ”marrowfat pea” sized hard lump under her ear next to her eye :( you couldn’t see It by looking but I was stroking her face and felt it. Not really a place we touch them, right by their eye, so I’m not sure how long it’s been there. It’s the same eye that the eyelid dropped a while ago now so I wonder if they’re related. I’m really worried what it could be due to the position of and it‘s hard. It won’t show on camera even with her short hair.

I was showing Chris it and he was feeling for it and Oreo and Ginger ran over, positioned themselves either side of her and started licking her eyes/face. They stood there as if to protect her :’( which makes us worry that something is quite wrong with her as Oreo got protective like that when Ginger was recovering from her abscess removal surgery. No changes in behaviour or appetite yet And she seems happy.

Has anyone had any experience of a lump in that area? Needless to say I’m taking her to the vet ASAP, which will probably be Monday... always on the weekend!

Try not to stress, vet check Monday is perfect. How near the eye is it?

Hi!

It is good that you have the lump checked but it is also not an emergency, so please try not to tie yourself into a small knot.

Unfortunately for you, it is impossible for us to tell you what it could be; it is one of those things that really need a hands-on examination. In view of the sensitive location, your vet may want to remove the lump in case it grows larger and could get in the way of things; but the lump itself is more likely harmless than not. ;)

All the best!

Please let us know how she gets on

Definitely worth a check just to be sure. For what it's worth, Hadley has a lump on one side, below her eye. It's about the size of a large pea and mobile with the skin. The vet has assessed and said it's likely a cyst and at her age (6.5 years) it's better just to leave it. It's been there a good while without bothering and without any real growth.

Thank you for your fast replies and support. It's very close to her eye. The edge of the lump I would say is maybe 5mm from her eye. You've helped us be less scared and we're calmly waiting to take her to the vet on Monday :) She is very happy in herself so that's reassuring.

Leia's just turned four so it may be just one of those things. Ginger had two huge abscesses on her throat when she was only about a year and a half if I remember correctly so these things can happen at any age. Nugget is going to the vet as well. We don't know how old she is but we thought also 4 or a bit younger perhaps 3 but both her eyes have gone cloudy quite suddenly. Not hay poke cloudy but it looks like cataracts forming to me. I had a dog develop them and it's just on the lenses. One eye can get watery too. I

I swear I take these ladies to the vet a lot more than we used to take our cats and dogs! But their lives are compacted into much fewer years aren't they. So I expect they would get more issues in the shorter time.
