Our little group started with - Neutered Boar Ouzo & Wifepig Morgan, Then approximately 6 months later Tia became part of the group, then 2 months later Saffi joined. They all lived happily together in their 6 * 4 C & C cage for another 8 months.

Then it happened, Tia & Saffi decided one day they didn't like each other and had a big fight, luckily we were both home at this time to witness this. Both piggies would lunge at each other roll about in a ball then separate, then almost at the same time run at each other again make contact, both with mouths open wide but not biting each other, Scary stuff. During this whole escapade neither Ouzo or Morgan interfered.

We separated them from each other and from Ouzo & Morgan, thinking it may be a power struggle for top sow. We divided the C & C cage into 3 ( 4 * 2 ), with Ouzo & Morgan at one end Saffi in the middle and Tia the other end. Saffi & Tia could still see and talk to each other through the bars which they did, without any signs of aggression, Ah we thought this just a one of, all they needed is some cooling off period, but to be on the safe side we decided to go through the whole bonding process with them. Later on that week, bonding baths, set-up neutral territory loads of hay and such like. Baths went well as we bathed them together. dried them, but as soon as we put them into the "bonding pen" all hell let loose again, as no blood was being drawn we thought maybe they need to sort out who's top sow. Time and time again they would come together, roll in a ball then separate, wait a while then have a go at each other yet again, this went on for some considerable time, neither pig giving ground. We decided to separate them as both piggies were becoming stressed.

Now here is the Freudian bit.. We can put either pig into the C & C cage with Ouzo & Morgan and all is fine, no bossing from any pig in the trio just happy families. So we have created a new layout for our piggies, 1 Large C & C cage ( 4 * 4 ) and one C & C cage ( 4 * 2 ) next to it. As a temporary solution we alternate Tia & Saffi with Ouzo & Morgan every week during cage clean. What we find really strange is that Tia & Saffi will sleep next to each other, with only a grid separating them but can't or won't share the same space without the whole saga starting again.

We know this only is a temporary solution and we have plans a foot to create more stable arrangement for Ouzo, Morgan, Tia & Saffi which doesn't evolve the weekly piggy swap.

We thought we would share our experience with you all.. Comments :wel:

Wow that is very strange! I cannot understand that at all. I did not know you could rotate piggies but it obviously suits them! Pictures would help me think clearly....

@Wiebke as she is piggy behaviour guru ;) I would say that it sounds like Saffi & Tia will probably never get on in the same space sadly :( I guess your options are let one join the original group & keep the other living alongside them but separate or get her a friend she can choose :)

Poor you! I doubt that they will ever go back together, even though they would probably get on well as next door piggies. Some pigs can really mess us humans around, can't they? glad that you are planning a permanent solution! Even if it is involving yet more piggies... I assume! ;)

Could be ;)... and 1 of our boars once his pockets are picked.. Watch this space... :D Plans are a foot.. x

We thought we all give you an update, as our plans have changed somewhat due to the untimely passing over the bridge of Wallace & Tim... :luv:

Ouzo, Morgan & Tia are now a permanent trio in their 4 * 3 C & C cage.

Uno is going Boar dating at Hutches rescue. @theoretikos

Saffi is also going dating as soon as Joanne at Hutches thinks she has a suitable Neutered Boar.

Our other 2 sets of boars ( Fred & Barney ) & ( Toby & Hunter ) are having extensions built onto their C & C cages.
