I’ve got a pig that I suspect has dental issues (vet appointment tomorrow.) Last year I lost a dental pig and I vowed that if I ever had a pig with dental issues again to take them to Simon in Northampton (and never ever have them filed or messed with by another vet). I know the referral procedure but apparently Simon and Kim are on holiday this week. With dentals being time critical, I’m feeling nervous and wondering if anybody knows of anyone else that can be trusted to at least bridge the gap until I can have my pig seen by Simon. I have a (new) fantastic vet, but he’s also on holiday, so tomorrow I’m seeing his replacement and not feeling optimistic.

Having had a dental piggie with a molar tooth spur I think I would rather wait and get an appointment with Simon or Kim Maddock than take the risk of a poor dental which sometimes can actually make things far, far worse. I would contact the C&R in Northampton and ask them if you can book an appointment (I’m not sure if you need a referral or not?) provided you can syringe feed and/or support your piggie until you can get there

Good luck x

Simon and Kim are currently on holiday, but will be back in work on the 30th. They’re amazing for anything piggy, but particularly anything dental.
I heard about them last year when I was waiting for my other dental piggy to get better. He never did, so never had a chance to see them then. I just hope waiting for an appointment for another week doesn’t make my little piggy too poorly.

Agreed. Every time I had my other dental piggy done he got worse and each time ended up with a dislocated jaw and finally an unmanageable abscess. Really don't want to relive all that.

That’s so sad! Having had that dilemma with my Ted, it’s very difficult to know what to do for the best. My Ted had a local dental performed which wasn’t great with GA, he didn’t eat hardly anything after that but syringe food and grass. I headd about Simon and Kim on the forum and wanted to get him up there instantly but it was the summer holidays, I had Gkids to look after and I also had to help my elderly Mum daily too who wasn’t very well at the time, it is also a 600 mile trip too so we stayed in a hotel overnight as I didn’t know how Ted and his companion would travel. I waited for quite a few weeks until I could get there but it was worth it, he ate hay before we had even left the vets.

It’s really about weighing up if your little piggie can wait that long, but also you need to get an appointment with them for when they are back?

Sorry you had to go through that, but sounds like Simon can work wonders. Just rang them up and the first available appointment is on the 6th September. Two weeks for a dental piggy is a long time. :(

They release same day emergency appointments so I suggest you book the appointment on 6th September and then phone them up at 8am before that date and try and get a same day appointment
