Hi guys,
My piggies are rescue babies and came to me with lice. I took them to the vet and got them treated with Xeno 50. I deep cleaned their whole cage and all bedding. About a week after that treatment I bathed them with Lice n easy. A week after that I followed up with their second dose of Xeno 50. It's now been a week since that second dose and they are still scratching a lot! One of them has quite a bit of dandruff and bigger bits of skin flaking off, and it's been 3 weeks since their first treatment. Should I be worried? Should I be doing something else? Starting worry there's another issue!
Any advice is super appreciated! 🐾❤️

Hi

You need to do at least another round - any xeno treatment should be at least three rounds.

If that fails, please see your vet again whether they could try another treatment. Some strains of lice can unfortunately be hard to get rid of.

Concentrate on a good hay-based diet and consider a 3 week booster course with extra vitamin C. The immune system is a big ally in the fight against skin parasites (a fully working immune system can usually keep skin parasites under control all by itself and help fight any acute outbreak); which is why they are much more common in piggies with a neglect background that haven't been treated at a good welfare standard rescue and only been put up for adoption once they are fully healthy.

All the best!

Brilliant, thank you! They are having their last dose next week, hopefully that will sort it out. I can't see any lice on them anymore which is a relief, I just hate seeing them so itchy, poor little guys!

It’s not nice to see our babies scratching drawing blood and bald patches, I used Xeno too and it worked a treat, vet gave me prebiotic powder to add to water or food to boost their immune system, good luck 🤞
