Last night, the first time since getting our pigs a year ago, a fox came into the garden and really rattled the doors to their hutch very loudly and made them very squeaky, i chased it off.

About an hour later, it came back and did the same again. It was a very persistent fox.

I took the pigs out and they were both really scared and felt pretty tense.

We are concerned this might happen again and dont want them getting scared to death?

Any Ideas? We had thought about getting an inside cage to put them in...

Thanks for your thoughts

i would say bring them inside,if you cant then maybe temp bring them in and organise a piggy shed as they are the only thing i can say that would be secure and your piggies wouldnt have to deal with that again, unfortunantly the fox may come back because of the piggies so it would be best to give them somewhere safe from foxes soon x

hi how high off the ground is the hutch? also you could add a few good bolts so the fox can't gaet in a fox once got my rabbit out and malled it and 'I found her It was a masive fright sadly she was put down, and I don't wan't anyone else to be put through that:)

How Scary! I have my foster pigs in the garden and worry about them although we have a dog and I believe that deters them a bit. I would also say they couldn't get in as we are totally enclosed with 7 foot fence and wall but I couldn't say for sure.

Personally if you CAN get them to live indoors then maybe you should. Put them out in the day in a run.

My sister had one of her rabbits killed by a fox and although the other one didn't die she wasn't the same afterwards. Scary.

Make sure that you do not put them out in a run when you're not around and better have a firm cover in case the fox comes by during the daylight hours.

If you can, bring your piggies inside.

bolts may be an ok idea but it wont stop the foxes staring at the piggies which will frighten them, inside or a piggy shed is the best options

Not to scare you but personally I would move to a safer place, as i lost a rabbit not to the fox actually getting the rabbit but from fright and stress from where the fox paced back and forth outside his hutch (could see the prints in the frost). RIP Houdini

we picked up a nice indoor cage in a sale today and they both seem much more happier now :)

thanks for your comments
