do you think piggies are alright to go out on the grass yet? all the snow has gone here and its actually been an ok day today. They are in a hutch outside and go in the shed in another hutch at night. If they have a towel would it be alright do you think? they just love going in their run. :))

Mine are going to go out for the first time this year today. All our snow and ice has melted now and its warmer than it has been! Of course mine have long fur...so they have a bit of an advantage.

i was going to put out today but the grass still looks rather wet and damp so I'm gonna wait and see how it clears up. but as a treat ive dug up a huge chunk of grass (roots and all) and have brought it inside to 'dry' then i'll give it to the piggies..if they cant go out on the grass, i'll bring the grass to them! ive cut a huge plantpot down to about 2 inches in height and shoved the muddy stump in there to drain, i think it will be ok to eat once the rain drops are off the leaves!

I let my girls have ten minutes on the grass yesterday (sad as I am I towelled most of the water off the grass) where the sun was hitting it. Bless them they were so happy but grumped when i took them back it. LOL

i do that aswell! i blot most of the wet with a towel before i put them on it i wouldnt want their little toes to get wet and cold!x)

Mine are out in their run now! Enjoying the grass, for the first time this year. x)

They have a 7ft run, and its a nightmare to put up, but its worth it.

The snow in our garden has nearly gone so I put my piggies out for a few hours yeaterday and they are outside now. Having been in hutches in our greenhouse since before Christmas they thought it was wonderful. They've been eating grass frantically and popcorning around.
And I have been able to clean out their hutches without them in!

Mine were put back in their hutch about an hour ago...they absolutely loved being out there! Gizmo sat and munched grass the whole time...but he had a good time. I took some photos...hope they came out!

I had all my guinea-pigs out in their runs yesterday whilst I cleaned all the hutches out, and one of them went in the run today. The snow and ice is patchy in my garden but I put the runs in the sun with a blanket on top of part of the run for them to get shade from. They loved it :))

wow... Piggies outside seems like a distant future to me... We just got more snow. I can't even get my piggies grass because it's all dead! I will go out and steal some apple branches, I think, to compensate them!

I put mine out in their run yesterday and today. Today, they went out at about 10 (due to the fog) and I put them away at about 4.30. They loved being able to eat grass again. I made sure to dry the grass first with newspaper, just to be on the safe side to prevent chills (the neighbour did think I was batty!).

Ha. Ha. I'm not the only mad one then!

they absolutely loved being out today. they popcorn all over but spike is quite large and cant really jump like he could when he was younger but its cute to watch ha ha :))

Don't know what temp it is in other parts of the country, but personally it's too cold / wet to put guineas out here (mine are mainly longhaired pigs).

I won't put them out until milder weather in Spring

Same here - I know it has warmed up slightly but the ground is still very cold and wet - much too cold for my piggies or bunnies to go out yet, they have to make do with a run about in the lounge.

thats what i do with mine and every few days i pick some grass to stuff in toilet roll holders for them to roll arond and play with so that way they still get grass and a run :)

As mine are still babies and have never been out i probably won't be putting them outside for a while yet.
I think if your piggies are used to being outside and the grass isn't wet then it should be fine.

I let mine out on short grass for a couple of hours on the days when temp is 7'C or more. To make sure the short-haired one is happy, they get a microwaved snugglepac inside an old washing-up bowl (with entrance hole cut-out) with vetbed on top and a pigloo on top of that!
The long-haired one is out and about more than the shorthair - he spends more time on the snugglepac with occasional bursts around the run and to drag some veg into the pigloo!

I put a run on the concrete and let them have a toddle around when they're hutches are being cleaned, if it's not raining. They won't be going back out on the lawn until spring, unless the lawn dries out underfoot, at the moment it squelches.

They've been having a handful of readigrass as a bit of a substitute, and lots of hay and veggies, plus any stray wheatgrass that's grown in my flowerbed. They really argue over that. rolleyes

Oh and plus playtime in the kitchen and hallway on a rotation basis.

I won't put mine out yet. Far too much difference in temp between the living room and the lawn. I may be being soft, but rather safe than sorry. It sounds like those that have been able to go out have enjoyed it :)

I can't let mine out on the grass just yet we've still got a patch of snow on the grass....but I'll go out tomorrow & cut them some long grass from the bottom of the garden for a treat.

I put all my boys out on sat the grass was still slightly damp but the temp was pretty warm they were so happy and when I brought them in they were not cold or damp and I did rub my long haired boy with a towel just to make sure they are indoor pigs and all seem fine. I did wait till the sun was up and on the garden and they were only out for 30 mins. we try not to have the house too hot anyway for the boys and it helps us when we go out in the cold too

Mine are garden summerhouse piggies, so temp difference isn't much inside/outside, just a matter of dampness on the short grass. Hence the dry, warm snugglepac place.
