Hi piggy people!
We have always used science selective balanced guinea pig food and the piggies usually LOVE it, that was until yesterday. Two of our piggies still love them (Snif and Teddy)
but our other pair of guinea pigs (Chocolate and Monty) have all of a sudden gone off of them.
It all started when we were running low on their pellets so we ordered a bag of the Tiny friends farm gerty guinea pig pellets ( the ordinary brown ones ) and the guinea pigs always used to love them but now Chocolate and monty have all of a sudden gone off them as-well so we went back to the science selective brand because we thought the piggies were just being picky but they are not even fussed about their favorite pellets anymore. They are eating hay and veggies completely fine so they haven't gone off them!

So yes I just wanted to ask a quick question if any of your piggies have gone off the science selective balanced guinea pig food too.

Many thanks, Sam1

If you’re concerned please weigh them regularly to check for any weight loss.
Hay is the greatest part of the diet 80% and pellets and veggies are only about 10% each so not so important. Some owners don’t feed pellets at all. It’s possible that they preferred the substitute ones so are behaving like toddlers in refusing their old favourite ones.

I agree - If they are eating plenty of hay, maintaining weight and they are otherwise ok, then sometimes they get fussy!
Mine only get five pellets each and only get even twice a week. They get dried forage instead.

(It’s no issue if they don’t like the Gerty ones anymore in particular because the ingredients of them are not ideal - they main ingredients is alfalfa which they shouldn’t have, followed by grains which are also best avoided. They aren’t grass or hay based which is the thing to look for)

Thank you for this advice my guinea pigs are due for a weight check anyway.
That is interesting about the gerty guinea pig pellets I will have a look at the ingredients the only reason why we buy them sometimes if we are not able to get to the pet shop that day. We are continuing to use the Science selective pellets and I have spotted Chocolate and monty eat a few of them this morning😃.
Thank you piggies and buns.

Thank you, the guinea pigs are eating lots of hay it has been snowing here and we keep our piggies in a summerhouse with a radiator and insulation so it is nice and warm in there. We have been putting in huge piles of timothy hay and meadow hay in the cages just in case they get a bit chilly so they are getting enough hay it is defiantly 80% of their diet.
Many thanks.
