Hi, as we are going through a heatwave now, I have been taking measures to keep my pigs cool (frozen water bottles wrapped in a towel, occasionally wetting their ears, having a fan nearby). I have noticed they’ve been eating less fresh veg and practically not drinking water at all. They usually don’t drink that much, but it seems i haven’t seen them drink any in the past few days.

they are munching on grass when I take them outside and seem to be eating some hay (there are normal poops in their cage).

is this normal brhaviour or should I be worried? They have been occasionally zooming around the cage but much less than usual (I’m assuming that’s normal what with the heat)

My girls are generally moving around less at the moment and I'm putting it down to the heat. If they're eating plenty of hay and moving around (even less enthusiastically than usual), and their bedding is showing evidence of being peed on - as you've said their poops are normal, I'd be inclined not to worry too much. If however, their hay consumption decreases and they aren't moving around at all - that's concerning. You could always weigh them daily for a while, instead of the usual weekly and see if there's any significant weight loss.

Have you been changing the water more in the hot weather? I'm finding with mine if I change the water frequently they drink it but with it being hot if I leave it too long the water gets warm and they wont drink it.

yes, I change it twice daily

thank you - I think its just the heat that’s making them a lil lazy then
