austin and bandit!

Austin and bandit seem to falling out with each other. It's got to a point where it looks like Austin is being bullied. They square up a lot and are squabbling over everything even though they have two of everything. Does anybody know what I can do to try and calm it down? They not physically attacking each other but bandit only had to come close to austin he runs a mile and chatters his teeth alot. He makes sounds that sound like crying a lot as well which is upsetting me. During cuddles and he's been getting more than his usual share because of this he won't stop talking it's as if he is trying to tell me something! they don't share the food bowl anymore either. The only thing they will share is the veggie bowl!

I'm losing sleep because of this as I can hear them when I'm in bed trying to sleep. Last night I had to put austin in the emergency cage and have him next to my bed just to get some peace and quiet. :(

If you can, try and arrange the cage so that they have as much separate quarters as possible and make sure that they have everything in twos now - bowls, hideys, water bottles, hay.

The more space they can have apart from each the better at this stage - hopefully you can get them over the big hormones without falling out completely, but it can be a nerve racking time.

If it gets really bad, you can separate for a day or so, ideally after a bath. However, this is a measure that should not be taken lightly and not be repeated too often.

I wish you and your boys the best of luck!

they have two bowls 2 water bottles 2 cabins, 2 floors which have the floor space of 6 c&c mesh panels and two hay boxes! the only single item they have is a cat snooze couch i got cheap from pets at home which is the only place austin feels most safe sat in as hes in it most of the time! they are cleaned out fully every wednesday and sunday and i try to keep on top of the mess they make! they not house proud! lol i bathe them fortnightly as well.
I have looked some things up and they are in the big hormone period of their lives! so hopfully they will settle soon and go back to being friends like they used to be! there is hope as during floor time the follow each other round and play together nicly! I hope it wont be months like this!

i have heard that but I'm also unsure but i suppose its worth a try! i read it has to be dog ones and NOT cat! aparently something with the cat one is harmfull.

Yes it has to be the dog one. It might be worth a try.... IF you decide to give it a go can you let me know the result either way? :)

has anyone else heard of using DAP? Lovelygirl if this carries on i might have to get some serious help from you seeing as you have done the rodentoligst course and the fact your not too far away in bristol!
Its expensive stuff so I'm going to do some digging round before trying it.

not done doing... and i am only on the RHA not the BAR and only just started but does mean i have the book...

How old are the boys? If i have no mistaken they have just moved home so maybe that is a factor in them setting up a new territory...

One thought is D.A.P is not cheap but spiltting them up and potentially having to get them two more new friends would be more expensive?

austin i got last october and was 4 months and bandit was about the same in january. they moved into the new cage area about 2 weeks ago i think! they were fine at first but only been getting bad this last week. Since i gave them some time in the garden! perhaps the spring air has triggered someting off! lol

yes they are! lol and I'm a worried parent wanting the best for my piggies!

It could be the new cage that's caused some ruffled feathers.

My boys are about 9 months old now and have settled down like an old married couple. The last ructions we had were back around Christmas.

I do find that although they both seem settled in their relationship, after I clean them out there is a bit of rumbling, bum wiggling and smells produced that would make a skunk's eyes water. Once they've both made their mark on all the clean furnishings things quiet down and they potter around quite peacefully again.

Maybe they just need some time to get used to the new surroundings?

How are they getting on now? Did you make a decision with respect to the doggy happy pheromones?

I haven't used DAP yet they calmed down a little. hoping I can get by! I've noticed if leon the rabbit is near their pen they start getting very teritorial with him even though there is a mesh panel between th which excites them and they take ages to calm down so there is a lot of bickering! It's all fin and games though! They were cuddled up together for a while earlier! Think they have a love/hate thing going on!

Does that mean you have bought it? I would love to know if it does have an effect on them!

Nope giving or a week to see how things go. I've looked unto it and quite a lot of peole swear by it if they have a er active boar! My worry is what it will do towards the rabbit

You could maybe put a thread on rabbit united forum and ask their opinions?
