Hi , my 1.2 year old male shelti , has never cleaned himself , his fur around his anus is very very soiled and wet .
Why is this ?

It’s generally a good idea with long coated piggies to keep the hair around their bottom clipped short to stop it from becoming soiled, as well as ensuring that bedding is changed regularly.
If he isn’t washing himself, then giving him a bum bath is a good idea

Boar Care: Bits, Bums & Baths

Also , he doesn't eat very well , he eats a lot less than the others , and sometimes food falls out of his mouth .
He has previosly damaged his tooth

You’re lucky if he poops in one spot. 99% of piggies won’t do that!

Have his teeth been checked recently? If he can’t eat properly, then it sounds like there are still dental issues which need to be addressed. Is his weight stable?

He used to weigh about 750 g now he weighs 600 g so i'd say no .

Then you need to get him to a vet as soon as possible and in the meantime step in with regular support syringe feeding (either mushed up pellets or critical care) . Lack of food intake and significant weight loss is of serious concern.

While all piggies have different weights based on genetics, even 750g is on the small side for a boar of that age.

Also weigh him daily in the meantime (same time every day) and try to get that appointment for his dental check soon as.

I notice you’ve updated your profile with your location. The fact that you are in Northampton is a good thing for your pig’s teeth - Simon at Cat and Rabbit Care Clinic is a highly recommended vet for dealing with guinea pig teeth. You should see if you can get an appointment with him.

Okay !

Hope you can get to see Simon and your boy recovers.
When I have had to syringe feed piggies I’ve mashed a small piece of banana in.
It goes down well.

I just spotted that you are in Northampton, what you waiting for, get your pig down to see Simon tomorrow, say he can't eat and its an emergency. It kinda is with that weight loss 👍. If you ever need help I'm in Northampton too

Oh sorry i meant , i placed a plate of mashed pellets in his cage , and he ate it .

Ah , i didn't know other people lived here ! 😄 😂 😄 😛 👍 👍

He broke his tooth , so he's on pain meds and critical care . :(
Poor piggie!
Hope he recovers well!
All the best.

I'm a little confused here. On your other thread you said that you aren't registered with a vet at all. I know critical care doesn't need a prescription but pain relief does. What pain relief do you have him on?
