Hi, just wondering if anyone has a shed/playhouse for their piggies?!? I've considered getting one but I'm not sure when. Are they good and are they warm enough in winter?! That's my main problem- are they really warm?! I would have for my boys to be extremely cold in the winter months x
Let me know your thoughts
Please post images if you have any
Thx

Guinea pigs can live indoors all year round. I would just keep them indoors with you. Mine live indoors.

I totally agree! Our only problem is our gorgeous little shih tzu, just barks and barks at them! We found this out when we brought them home from the rescue in their little travel cage! My dog just simply hates them! I then had to make the decision on where to keep them. We bought a huge five tiered hutch that is insulated! The hutch splits into 2! We move them into a fully insulated garage in winter with extra hay and snugglesafe heat pads! They are really happy living in there in winter! We make a guard around the hutch in summer so my dog can't get to them! The shed idea was just a thought as it would mean my dog couldn't get to them, they would have extra space and I thought I could make little levels in it for them? Do you think this would be a good home for them? They would use the run/hutch on the grass in the day and live in the shed at night and on cold days?!? The shed would be fully insulated! Sorry this is so long haha x:):lol!:

Oh right I did not realise you have a dog. Is there not a room they can live in were your dog is not allowed and the door can be kept closed? If not a heated shed is fine.

Hah thx! Do your pigs live in C&C cage?!? Oh and my dog has free access to my whole house and if I close a door and she knows the piggies are in there she will scratch the door. This will take the paint from the door but more importantly hurt her little paws haha x all of my pets are spoilt hah x the piggies turned one on Monday and they got loads haha x you wanted to see the pile of presents at christmas x

Yes they have an 8 by 3 c and c cage so I do not have to give floor time. They never liked floor time yet they need the space so it makes sense just to have a bigger cage.

Totally! Wow that's a really good cage size hah! I joined this website today and I'm addicted to it! I love it so much! Hah I love how you can talk about different things with other people ( who actually know what your talking about!) hehe x I once started to talk to my friend about guinea pigs and at the end of my little speech on the correct care she asked me what I had for tea yesterday! I was :mal:Haha just looked at cool emojis :yahoo::bronco::crazy::fog:

It is a shame people will go on about their children but do not want us to talk about our piggies.

I am so sorry about the length of my posts I'm gonna try to cut them down! It's coz I'm overwhelmed by this website haha

Please do not be sorry. There is no limit to how long or short a post is. It is great you are enjoying the forum. I would love to see pictures of your piggies.

Haha I know right! I wish people would research pets before buying x I hate it when people just walk in a pet shop and just pick a pet because they think it's small, cuddly and cute- in reality they grow but the "new owners" don't think about that! They buy unsuitable cages and bedding!

Haha ok! I'll get some pictures tomorrow as it's clean out day then haha x they are actually going back on the grass tomorrow for the first time over the winter period x they have been introduced back onto the grass slowly though haha! I was going to ask you what pellets do you keep your pigs on? I would love a photo of your pigs too (Ik they will be adorable)

You are so right. It is so sad they way animals are mistreated and kept in tiny cages. Pet shops give the worst advice and are there just to make money. I wish they were not allowed to sell animals and everybody would use rescues.

Mine eat burgess excellent but some people believe other options to be better. There are lots of pictures of mine on here already!

I must say I have to buy my hay from pets at home as I extremely close and there are no farms near by! Sometime I'll buy the odd toy for my boys but normally I stay well clear! I feel sorry for animals in the adoption centre there as people always go for the babies and they are just left there!

Oh ok haha I'll look for some later! Do you have any with a pic of your C&C cage on?!? And my pigs are also on burgess although the breeder I bought them from had them on pets at home and a wag mix so I slowly switched them over. Do you give your pigs time on the grass in summer?

There actually is not a picture of my cage as it is very basic. I am afraid of ramps so it is all flat. I get my hay from hayforpets which you may like to try. I get ings hay which is an organic media hay. 9.5 kilo bag is only £16. I do not have a garden so mine do not go outside.

Cool hah I just commented on your guinea pig bag it's beautiful hah x I used to like Ramps but I don't really like them now x why don't you pick a few dandelion leaves in areas where you know there are no pesticides hah x I did this a while back and this little old lady came over and asked me what I was doing *awkward* hah x

I'm gonna have a look on that website you suggested! Thanks x

I do not think I will as I could not be sure they were safe. Thank you for the idea though. I am sure that was awkward!

hi i am mum to 10 sows who live in the spare room downstairs. Have 4 in 5x3 c&c and 6 in a 5x4 c&c soon to be 5x5. Have used one side of a pen to block the doorway as i have two dogs. The lab rottie cross wont leave them alone. My cages dont have ramps but they have fleece forrests , toys and tunnels

Haha no problem! I think I have finally found someone who actually has an idea on wht I'm talking about hah x I love spoiling my boys hah x I've always wanted to try fleece bedding but I don't think I would have time to wash it constantly haha x have u ever bought a piggiepigpigs item I think they are really quite cool haha x I never have tho a bit too expensive for me haha x

@madguinealady omg! That looks so cool haha x my 2 boys live in a 2 hutches which overall makes 5 levels and they love it haha x I also have a dog which is y my boys aren't in a C&C cage haha I love both pets which is y i keep them away from each other coz I wouldn't want my dog to get too close haha x

@madguinealady omg I have nearly all the same items as u in tht pic
The pink fleeces
The dome (I have in red)
The fiddle sticks in large
The lady bug chew

Oh and is tht a piggiepigpigs snuggle sack or piggie dig

yeah that cage is bigger now as when it was like that i only had two sows in there. Now have 2 adults and four babies in there so 5x4 soon to be 5x5 when i can move teh wardrobe. Both cages have fleece forests and play tubes now as well.

Is the strawberry tunnel from just add pets?!? I was looking at one the other day! How do u wash them coz they are quite big and don't have a removable pad?!?

Hi, just to say that our piggies live in the shed, and they are fine. I would have liked them inside, but neither my OH nor my dog would go for that option! Their shed is just across the path from the kitchen window, so I can keep a really close eye on them when I'm not in there with them. They have hutches in there and also a run, plus their runs on the grass when the weather is suitable. I made some hutch covers from old, heavy, lined curtains which I put on when the nights are cold, plus a silver screen (the type that you have on campervans) at the window, Snugglesafes and hay to the ceiling!
As for pellets, the girls will only eat Burgess Excel with Blackcurrant and Oregano. The boys are currently trialling the new Asda nuggets, which they seem to really like. The pellets are a bit chunkier than some which I like - it seems to increase the nibble-factor!
