Hi.

I want to make a cover for my ramp out of fleece and also a piece of fleece for the upstairs of my C&C (too small for a pre-made fleece blanket) and have a few questions. First of all does it fray? Can I just cut with those jagged scissors or is proper hemming required?

Also does anyone know how thick it needs to be should it be doubled up? should wadding be involved for the ramp? The ramp is presently a bent C&C square and I line with newspaper and vet bed. I had to attach it with cable ties though and had to be cut off everytime it needs a wash.

I want to make something I can velcrow or popper on and off the ramp!

P.S I can borrow mum's sewing machine which is a good thing as cannot sew lol :))

Thanks

No fleece doesn't fray (or at least none of mine has). I wouldn't use wadding incase they nibble it, i personally would double the fleece & if you don't want to use poppers or velcro you could use bulldog clips - these are what i used in my indoor cage to keep pieces of vetbed/fleece insitu on the 2nd level i made & no piggy has ever dislodged it or gotten under it. :)

i use carpet tiles on my ramps to give them something a bit rougher to grip onto

I made mine with sherpa like fleece which is woolier then normal fleece. I made a sock that slides all the way to the top of the ramp wich is then fixed with velcro.

What I did with my ramp was, I cable-tied some pieces of lino to the ramp so there is no chance of the pigs getting their toes/nails stuck in the bent grid. Then I just cut a piece of fleece and doubled it up and attached to the ramp with clothes pegs and bull-dog clips.

I've got 5, 4 sows and a neutered boar. I've taken the ramp away at the moment as one of my sows is pregnant and I've turned it into a little flat for her! There's a thread on the pregnancy section of the forum about it.
