My skinny pig Daisy has been pooping a bit unusually for the past week. I noticed that she had lost some weight and was watching to see if she is eating. Note, her weight loss is showing in her face and you can see her spine, but the rest of her is just as round as always!
Her back end seems to be a bit hunched, so i tried baby ovol for possible gas, but it hasn't done much and I dont hear gas or feel rumblings.
She's eating completely normally, hay, veggies, vitamin c wafers (which she wouldn't do if this was a dental issue). However, in addition to this weight loss, I noticed that she's lifting her bum quite high to poop. She doesnt seem to be straining or in any discomfort at all. And her poops are completely normal in size, colour and consistency.
Her behaviour is the same as always, nothing at all else has changed.
Has anyone seen this with their piggies, to shine some light on what might be happening with her?

I’m sorry to hear this.

If she is losing weight then she is in fact not eating normally. Weight loss occurs when their hay intake has reduced. Hay is the largest part of the diet at 75-80% daily intake so even a slight drop can make a difference.
Veg and pellets aren’t a main part and even a piggy with a dental issue can in fact still often eat veg and pellets but their hay is where they struggle.

How much weight has she lost in total?
Please switch from the routine weekly weight checks and instead weigh her daily each morning. Any weight loss of 50g or more requires you to step in with syringe feeding.

She will need to be seen by a vet to investigate any potential issue. She may be experiencing some pain somewhere.

Yes, I've been syringe feeding her a supplement and she has gained some weight back, but more around the sides so her spine is still visible, depending on how he is sitting.
I'll monitor her weight and make an appt to see our vet this week
Thank you!
