Hi guys,

I have a male guinea pig that's been wuite poorly lately. To cut a long story short we had to rehome his male friend that he'd been with since birth as they were fighting :( Shortly after that he developed a fungal infection and ended up being treated by Vedra for over a month and is still having to wear a body bandage as he still scratches even though there's nothing wrong with him :(

While all this was happening i found out that he shouldn't be kept on wood shavings as it's not good for him so we opted for a mixture of newspaper, towels and a fleece as he is an indoor guinea pig :)

We have hit a snag though, because of the extra bedding we can't put the mezzanine floor in the cage as it won't close with it in now. This doubled up as a bed/hideaway.

I went and bought Snuggles a piggie igloo which i thought he would love to snuggle in but he won't go anywhere near it, he has a chube in there that he won't go near either. i found that he'd tugged at the fleece and hidden underneath it the other day so i pinned the fleece down with the top of the cage so he doesn't spend his whole life underneath this fleece!

This makes me think that he does want a little hideaway but i have no idea what to get.

I'm toying with the idea of getting him a baby male piggie friend as he can;t be neutered as he won't survive the anesthetic so i'm hoping this will make him a bit more confident.

He has been in the wars bless him :(

Any advice/opinions would be greatly appreciated :)

Were the boys brought together as brothers maybe, when their hormones begin to kick in is usually when they begin to fight to show dominance.
If you want to give another baby boar a chance of a new home with your boar you could try a local rescue, that way your boar could choose his own friend an there would be a better chance that they would bond together.

my piggies love cardboard boxes as houses and they make great chew toys to lol. they have 2 coca cola boxes a boddingtons box and a brown box that an xmas present came in!

if he is suffering from a fungal (it can take many mths to clear) then getting another friend for him at the mo wouldnt be a good idea else you will have 2 piggies with fungal problems...

try putting a teddy in with him for the mo

do you have any pictures of his fungal ?

its taken 3 mths to get my piggie well (abandoned piggie) better and i was at the end of my teather at times..

malaseb shampoo stopped the itching and now all his hair has regrown.

I know this is slightly off topic but was it Gengafighting with snuggles or the other wya round?xox

Hi, sorry i haven't replied, i've not been able to get out of bed for most of Christmas and the new year as i came down with the flu and tonsilitis :(

In response to your replies it was Genga that was bullying snuggles :( Snuggles has such a lovely temperament and is really gentle and loving :)

I'm having to take him back to vedra tomorrow as it seems his infection may be coming back and we can't understand why so we thought it best to get checked out straight away.

I think i may have a solution for the housing problem, please adivise me if this is not the way to go.

My mum has offered us her rabbit cage that she no longer needs. Here it is:

It is absolutely huge! I was thinking that when we get snuggles well again and the weather starts to get better that we could put the hutch in our shed and get Snuggles a couple of baby male friends to live with so he has company again.

What do you think? Is there enough room for them in the hutch or do you think they will just fight again?
