Hi there,
I am new to the forum and am a fairly New Guinea owner. I was wondering whether it’s normal for one of my male piggies to seem like they’re drinking all the time in this very hot weather in the uk. It’s been around 27 Celsius in the flat and I am just wondering whether it’s just the heat that is causing him to drink a lot more. My other piggie I haven’t seen drinking as much as him but he doesn’t drink as much anyway. Might be good to note they are around 5 months old.
Any advice or help would be great! Thank you.

My Patsy drinks loads whereas The Ever Beautiful Betsy and Little Meg don't drink much at all. It all depends on the individual piggy what they drink and how much water the extract from the veggies and grass.

Thank you, I guess I am worried because it’s been the last couple of days that he has really been drinking a lot and when I got home from work the bottle had really drained down which has never happened before, could this be the heat? As it has been so hot in the UK I guess I am worried that it might be something more but I am probably overthinking it haha :D

I expect it’s the heat. I’ve been refilling my water bottles twice a day every day lately but before this heat it was once a day/ every other day

Great thank you, my first summer with them so it’s good to know it’s all right :)

Hi!

Guinea pigs are currently drinking more in the hotter weather. Please ensure that they always have access to cool, fresh water. Don't be tempted to overfeed fresh veg because too much all of a sudden can give them diarrhea or even bloat.
I've got my filter jug in the fridge to keep the piggy bottles topped up during the day and refill it after every use. If you are out for the day, ice cubes for Sippy bottles or crushed ice for conventional ones will keep the water cooler for longer, as will a larger bottle of water with a sock over the top - insulating works both ways, whether keeping the cold or the heat in!

Thank you, I have been worried about keeping them cool and looked after when I am out at work, I will try and make some crushed ice to put into my bottle
