Hey all, so I’m looking into rehousing my pigs in a large wood and Perspex indoor pen I’ve found, but it’s in plain wood and I would kind of love to make it less in your face since it’s going to be going in my bedroom. Does anyone know of any piggie friendly paints for both inside and outside the pen? 🤔

I’ve looked a few up, but would happily take recommendations from anyone who has painted a piggie cage before.

I’ve never used paint for any wood which could potentially be nibbled by my piggies, but I’ve heard of quite a few reasonable ones. Garden shades by Cuprinol is safe.

Lovely, thanks for the replies! I shall look into the suggested paints for a bit of colour 🙂 🖌

I'm not sure on the design of your hutch but - the inside of my hutch is just plain wood, you could put some flooring lino on the floor to make a waterproof base to lessen any odours of piggy urine though.

Painting the outside of the hutch where it can't be nibbled - eg, centre bit of a door, it shouldn't make too much difference what paint is used. Make sure the paint has been dry for a few days & no odour is coming off of it though, before putting piggies in it-just to be on the safe side. :tu:
Piggy safe paint must be used on any areas that can be nibbled though.

Or maybe a better suggestion would be to put the lino inside on the floor & put a few stickers/decals or matching wallpaper on the front of the door to pretty it up a bit?

A pretty material 'curtain' over the front of the hutch, something that matches or enhances your current decor. (put on with drawing pins.. Difficult to nibble & easy to remove if needed).

Good luck on your revamp :)
Let us see what you decide on :)
