I just wondered whether there was anything in it that was potentially harmful - I know my friends use it for their rabbit (who uses a litter tray - amazing!) however he's at least twice the size of each of our pigs so was worried there may be chemicals that rabbits can tolerate but pigs cant because of the levels/size ratio. noticed on their spot on that you can also use it on rabbits but the dose is much higher even for a similar weight rabbit - which led me to think rabbit's tolerance of chemicals must be a lot higher.
I guess there are natural cat litters around but I cant afford to spend a fortune on it, these things do tend to be a lot more expensive!
There's a cat littler called 'The worlds best cat litter' which is made from corn, it's said to be safe for small animals (including mice, rats etc) so I'm assuming this would be fine for piggles. It can be flushed down the loo too (in small quantities) Dunno why I only just thought of this :{
I use biocatolet for my pigs instead of shavings. It is a paper based cat litter that is totally pig safe and smells nice. It has no chemicals in it. You have to be careful with other litters as some have chemicals in to get rid of the smell.
