Yes sarni boxes...
I am a proud piggy mammy as they pee pee in them boxes too, never on the fleece.
It's amazing ! Although it does use up twice as much hay, as I have too fully replace each box daily. As I don't like the thought of them eating there pee pee hay hahaha...
Does anyone else's piggies use their hay boxes as toilets ?
Guessing as they get older so too will the sarni boxes. I've tried shoe boxes but one devours cardboard....so cardboard is band for the moment .
Happy guinea pigs x

Mine kind of use litter trays, I put the hay rack next to it so when they're eating they pee and poo there the most but they do also go on the fleece boo! I use a cat litter tray or I also have one I made out of correx :)

I read about someone who unintentionally toilet trained their guinea pig. They always had it on hay and newspaper, then they put it on fleece for the first time. Then the owner noticed that the guinea pig was running around squealing in the new cage, the guinea pig was busting! So they put a box of hay in the cage and the guinea pig immediately went in it! :D
I'm looking forward to seeing what the cage looks like when its finished! Your guinea pigs will love the space! :yahoo:

I've played with the cage all night....off to bed now !
But it's been in lots of different shapes and various areas of the dining room, with my hubby just shaking his head !
So watch this space and I will post piggy palace pics when so am finished ( but will I ever be finished or will this become a hobby that just keeps expanding ) haha..
I realised after taking the piccy that's there was 20 squares in the box, so the cage can go larger as I hadn't used them all. So the possibilities are endless :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

I've got a litter tray of newspaper and hay underneath their hay rack, and they do go to the toilet in there a fair amount... But unfortunately they still like to go everywhere else too :p

After much debate....
Piggies are in the utility , we decided this was best for our family...as our 3 year old who kept wanting to pop toys in the cage.
They seem to enjoy being off the floor, There is a radiator in there :D, no draughts. They have settled immediately, so if they are happy I am happy.
One thing that does worry me is the washing machine and tumbler is in there and the noise, so I will gradually get them used to that. I've also popped a thermometer in there to try and keep an eye on the temperature.
They have been in the living room or dining room in the small cage for 6 weeks ish. We are a hot family so its not above 18degs.
One thing that I am unsure about is - it is cooler in there, especially on a night. I can give them extra bedding etc to keep them warm no problem.
*** But IMAG3149.webp would you piggy experts suggest just leaving them in there now to acclimatise or putting them back in the smaller cage over night ? I don't want them disturbed by the possible slight change in temperature ? Although I know a lot of you piggy owner keep yours outdoors and its still in the house with a radiator in the room ** any ideas welcome ? :D

I think they should be fine :D Just make sure they have something warm to sleep in :)

In regards to poop trays, we made like a kitchen out of correx for one of the cages, got another 4 to do lol, Jericho and Big E do seem to go toilet in it a lot, it's a lot easier to manage. The kitchen slots in nicely, it's about 1 and a half grids long.

Marvellous thanks haha.
I've dug out an old thinsulate Hat for their pigloo.....piggy heaven xx

I think they'll be just fine, they'll get used to the noise quickly :) I also have fleece but an area of Fitch bedding and hay for them. All four piggies do the majority of their wee's in the Fitch bedding, skirting round their hay. They do wee in other places too, but not much. They definitely prefer 'litter' for their wee. :)
Oh and as for space, again I think they'll settle in very quickly without having to put them in their cage at night. They'll be just fine :) It's a lovely space for them :)
Are you going to make it so that the front panels can be opened for cleaning? :)

Critter...
You are a genius !
I hadn't thought of the cleaning ? I did really struggle setting it up with the fleece etc...my arms can go over easily but awkward, my 11year old can't quite reach yet.
Haven't a clue how to make a door :yahoo:so I will Google that now and have a go..
Again thanks for all the advice x

Looks like a few cable ties are a piggy slaves best friend hahaha thanks xx

I've got a correx insert in my cages because sometimes when the pee it goes through the fleece (yuck).

As I always say, excuse the wallpaper, we moved in this year and haven't gotten around to decorating yet, this is my bedroom.

Wow what a Fab set up ! Great space..
I have been trying to source some cortex, but I am finding it quite expensive.
Trouble is - We bought the pigs, they were in a temporary dog cage whilst tiny ( which we had for the dog already ), then I bought a 100cm cage.....:stu:.....and I shouldn't have wasted my money ! as once you can see how much they run and popcorn around its useless and rather crule.
So now bought the c&c cage..minus for now the cortex hahaha.
Maybe after Santa has been I could buy some cortex x

I'll cross my fingers for you! I got some 2mm thick correx from ebay for £10 odd, the other I got was 4mm but you have to get so many sheets.

I've just looked at my origional piccy and realised it looked like there was no way to get in to pick up/clean/feed etc... So here is another shot ! :D:D so I think I might manage without making any doors, thanks for the suggestion though :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:IMAG3151.webp
