me, boyfriend and four wee pigs are moving in two weeks to a lovely new flat but on the lease which i signed said no pets. I am hoping that we can sneak our lovelies in with no problems.but really, what damage would guinea pigs do.don't know wether to confess all or just keep it quiet.

;D I'm lucky all the houses mum and I have rented through the years were pet friendly... except one ::)
I'm sure they wouldnt damage the place, theyre confined to a cage so no harm done i guess :)

Good luck with hiding them ;D

Thanks!don't understand why landlords have problems with pets. Yeah we had to hide them in the house we are in now.He called round about a leak and i was praying that he wouldn't go upstairs to find four guinea pigs and two hamsters.Any signs of toys, guinea pig hair, wood shavings etc all had to be put away.

Have you asked about cage animals? Sometimes they mean more like cats and dogs...if they come round one day and you havn't had time to sort out the pet stuff so they don't realise maybe suggest you're looking after them whilst a friend is on holiday..good luck? O0

i think most refer to pets running around the home, leaving their mark such as puppies and kittens might do..?

having said that one of my friend rang a landlady up about a house went to have a look, the landlady was desperate for someone to move in, she said no pets but my mate had 2 cats and said she didnt want the house as she has cats and if they couldnt come neither was she, shes now living in the 'no pets allowed' house :D along with a dog haha

i dont think caged animals are much of a problem, if you tell them you have them but they are clean and smell free even offer them to come and have a look at your house with them in now to show how un-messy they are I'm sure they would be fine about it

Our lease says no pets but we begged the landlord to let us move in even though we had 2 cats. We told him they were ever so good and didn't scratch stuff or anything. Within 2 weeks they had turned the flat into paper mache cos we had to keep them in to get used to the place anfd they weren't happy ;D. When we got the guins we moved the hutch out to the garden on the day he came round for his inspection and told him that my friend had gone travelling for a year and asked us to look after them for her. This year we're going to tell him that my friend met someone abroad and is staying there so now we're lumbered with them >:D

my friends house isnt landlord friendly, and they got a friend to look after the cars and snuck them in a week later.

Apparently this is the norm. The main issue is the damage that will be caused by the animals. I spoke to the manager of our letting agency and she stated that they really just consider cats and dogs to be pets and there is no issue with caged animals. If she ever comes to inspect the flat she always has a cuddle of the pigs when I'm there too! There is, however, a possibility that you would be made to pay for extra cleaning (even if you made the place spotless).

I think you should ask your landlord/landlady and respect their wishes. It is their property and they have a right to decide if they want pets or not. Unfortunately a lot of people who rent do not respect others peoples property because it is not theirs and they probably won't be there that long they treat it carelessly. I know because I have been on the other side i.e. a landlady. Not all people who rent out property are wealthy I inherited my mums flat when she died and it ended up costing me money.

My sister rents her house and she has 2 snakes, a hamster, an aquarium and a rabbit! As long as she doesn't have cats or dogs it's ok,

The house next door is rented - everyone whos lived there has had rabbits or guineas - landlord says no pets but last lot in had a cat and he knew about it! Current lady in has 2 huge rabbits - indoors at night but out in the day - I'm often peering over the fence to see them!

I think you will be fine :)

I have rented my house out in the past & didn't have any problems. I think as long as there is no detrimental damage caused by a pet then it shouldn't be an issue...

I used to have pet rats and had a real problem finding a landlord who would allow them :-\ But I guess thats because of peoples preconceptions of rats :(

i think I would get someone else to ring up and ask about keeping pets, enquiring about a new letting. If the answer is no I would just keep quiet as if you've already signed the contracts etc it would be a real problem.

Our guineas are contraband.... when it's the time for the meter reading / flat check by the landlord, I take them to work n the travel cage :p

A few years ago when I split from my ex I needed somewhere quickly.
A house came up for rent and they said no pets. When I got the keys I could see why.

There was dog poo all over the carpets hair balls galore down the back of radiators, The remains of a dead animal in a cage.
Absolutely shocking to be honest. I explained I had a hamster and asked if I could keep it and was allowed. (i would have sneaked him in anyway)
2 years later when i moved out I had a dog a rabbit a piggie and 2 bearded dragons.
They came to do the house check for the return of my bond and I confessed to the animals, It wasn't a problem to them at all as they could see I wasn't in the same league as the previous tenant.
