i think alot depends on the individual pig and how they have been handled but in my opinion males are friendlier.

i think in terms of interaction with a human males are meant to be friendlier. although sows are meant to bond with each other better

i have found over all the guine apigs i have had my males have been more friendly than the females i have had

I dunno all mine are different i think there is no friendlier one really as it really depends on their personalities O0

all my piggies are friendly, id say the boars are more outgoing and fearless where as my girles hold back a bit and don't launch themselves at the bars of the cage unlike duke does lol but id say they were just as friendly :)

I think it just depends on the guinea pig - their personality, where they were born (ie in a mass breeding place and never handled, into a home with children so handled a lot but chased around and maybe roughly (not saying all children would do that before anyone shouts at me!) or into a small rescue, handled from birth gently and given lots of love) and how much attention you give them too.

I have a girl who isn't as friendly but then her sister is, I think it just depends on the pig. Sunshine is very friendly as are Pudsey and Eccles but Twinkle! Haha! ;D He wouldn't bite you he is just Mr indepigdent!

I think it just depends on the individual pig. I wonder if P@H are saying that because they often sell the females before the males (that whole myth about boys fighting etc) & want to encourage people to buy the males....

Starla you old cynic! ;D Good point though and that probably is the case here! :)

its probably because boys tend to be on their own more so ond with humans than other guineas i find groups wise boys and girls same i never had a single sow so cant say if they would react like my single boys who are all friendly to me

The boars i have had have been more independent and cocky, they loved to be picked up and cuddled at every opportunity.
I currently only have sows, they are very confident, they all come to the front of the cage to have their noses rubbed but aren't too keen on having cuddles.

i think it depends on the piggy and how much it is handled. my 2 girls loved to be cuddled and very friendly and zoe is so laid back she'd fall asleep. when hubby comes round they absolutely fight over getting a cuddle from hubby. so i would say it depends on the piggy and the circumstances of it's background. what ever the stats i would still keep to girls. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

I've only had 2 girls so I don't know - but my 2 girls are complete different. Blossom will just lie there to be picked up whilst Daisy runs about screaming because I'm going to touch her (once she's up she's fine and loves a cuddle).
I'd noticed that sign when I bought my 2 but I'd already made up my mind before I went it that I wanted girls so it didn't influence me.

I find sows more independent than boars and some (of both genders) never seem to get accustomed to cuddles whereas others love them!

Think just depends on the piggy's own personality - just like most species really!

;D I can't help being cynical when it comes to p@h ;D

I have male and female GP's. They each have their own characteristics, and are all friendly. It depends how much attention is paid to each pig. The more you interact with them, the friendlier they get. I have 2 males at the moment and 7 females. None of them are afraid of me and they all run up squeaking at meal times or when i go near them. In my experience if you only want 1 pig then go for a male, but if you want 2 pigs, then opt for females.
