Hi Jo,

I don't know about the new range, but looks like this hutch is to replace the old Lavander Lodge which I have. It's a fantastic hutch I've had it for 2 years and its very sturdy. I know Pets at Home come under attack from us sometimes in regard to animal care but there hutches are fantastic I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Good luck with it!

Louise

Thanks for the reply Louise, I thought people would say they were cheap rubbish LOL, because sometimes the ones they have on display never seem to be quite right, bits missing etc or locks don't work.

Great to get a good opinion though as I'm going round in circles trying to decide where to get a hutch from and so far have ended up with nothing! I've got two of Sophie's boys on reserve and want to get on with actually getting them here.

Cheers
Jo

I have seen the guinea pig cottage in my p@h and quite like it! Do check the locks though, If they have bits of wood that go round and round, you can always add barrel locks, that's what I have done with mine. xx

Thats what we have done Jane, even with our chicken arc we added extra locks. Can't be too careful. I love the corner hutch I saw that last week! Would look ace in our garden hehe! I think it was about £160. Worth it to pay extra for a good hutch that lasts. :)

I think it has proper metal locks/bolts on it (are they what you mean by barrel locks?). The one on display at our P@H has some screws knocked through that are sticking out where they shouldn't be, but perhaps they use these ones for display as they can't really sell them.

I thought £59.99 was a good price too for a 5ft hutch as I've not seen anything for that price on ebay.

Cheers.

All my hutches are P@H. My two piggies are in a Lavendar Lodge and I have two buns in a Thistle Hall. The wood is fairly soft on these and the locks can be a bit funny but as a whole I really love them and was dissapointed they have discontinued them.

I upgraded my other pair of buns to the new Primrose Cottage which is more or less the two tier version of the one you like. The wood doesn't seem as thick to me but my OH thinks its actually better quality. My only gripe is that the mesh isn't as good quality as my other two. Oh and the instructions were useless - half hour construction was more like 3!

P@H get a lot of stick but most of their hutches are pretty good sized which if nothing else is a step up from most shops.

I have found that the construction is not difficult, just tricky and takes two people because of the length. One holding one end whilst the other connecting the other. Definitely not a half hour job though. Agree with Amy on that one. xx

I am in the process of ordering this hutch, the only thing holding me back is the strip of wood running through the middle of the left hand door.
Just wondering if this will stop me having a good view of the pigs.

Probably sounds silly, but I like to watch them when they think I am not looking ! he he

**Just realised this is only 1ft deep and 1ft in height, I dont think is big enough really.
There is another 5ft hutch on their website (2ft deep) but its £79.99.

I have 2 parsley den hutches.. (for my rabbits) they were terrible, when it rained, the rain came through straight away.. until i got the hutch huggers, and one of the catches came off after a week.. but that was cos my Lara kept pulling on her door! :))
Other than that, I like the plastic legs on this one (dont know if its just the parsley that has them) but ive had problems with rot on hutch legs before. I also like the mesh..its fox proof and thick, unlike some of the other ones ive seen in stores.
My local pets at home has them all out on display, I think thats the best way to see them and judge the quality, sizes etc.. the customer service i couldnt fault so would definately use again x
