So, i've just been into pets at home to get dog treats and as always have to look at the animals whilst i was there..
In the adoption part they had a single female guinea pig all on her own (and very fat)
I asked about her, she is 4 years old and has just recovered from bubblefoot.
I wanted to take her but the store would not let me as i had said i have 2 gp's at home i could put her with!
Their policy is to only rehome where she could live on her own.
I was so annoyed! no wonder no one will take her home...
I may go back this afternoon to get her and see a different sales person and not mention that i will put her with my neutered male and young female....

Sometimes, a little white lie is necessary to rescue a little furry :)

I hate going in Pets at Home but went in there to get some more toys for Hettie as they do have a great selection.

Me and OH fell in love with a white and fawn rabbit who let my OH stroke him/her and then did a happy flop!

I so wanted that rabbit but made myself walk away :(

I can't stop thinking about her.
The OH has said i can have her, the spare hutch has made it's way into the conservatory!
My current female is just over 4 months and my neutered male is 9 months so i would hope they would accept the older female.
The staff did say she spends all day sitting the the corner and she had been with them for a few months. she looked she she could do with some friends! :-)

If you are in a position to still offer her a home if she doesn't bond with your existing two, I would go back and not say anything.

I fell in love with a single one year old degu in their adoption centre who had been there for 2 months and I couldn't leave him there for any longer.

I had never had a degu before but I didn't tell them that.

Four years later and he takes pride of place in my living room :D x

We are definately going back later today.
I have the space to keep her separate if need be.
Once the spring comes the other 2 will go back in their outside mansion so she could have the double hutch they are in for the winter.
If they dont get on, at least she will still be able to 'talk' to the others.

Thats definitely not the national policy from Pets at home. In fact when I took Daisy from the adoption centre they were quite keen to find out whether I would be pairing her with other pigs so she wasn't alone. Maybe you got unlucky with a certain ill advised sales rep or maybe that store has had a spate of them returned in bad condition from failed bonds.

Obviously I am not suggesting that people buy / adopt animals that they have little to no knowledge of.

We didn't adopt Marley (degu) spur of the moment. We kept going back to the store to 'visit' him and just kind of fell for him and we did do our research first

@Apollo86 I do hope you get her, sounds like she'd have a great set up with you whether a bond works out or not. And far better than someone adopting her who will naively take it from PAH that she needs to be alone.

Get OH to adopt her... or wear a sneaky disguise :))

Just got back from pets at home.
She had gone :(
Rather dissapointed.....

Aww what a shame :( Hopefully some has got her who knows what they are doing. Perhaps you could look at a single piggy from a rescue needing a home?

The piggy might not be gone because sometimes they put them out the back out the way so they think you think they gone.
Do you understand what I'm saying.
And she wouldn't have gone at fast because of paper work

I will keep my eyes open. The hutch is set up and ready now, so next time i am ready for a new arrival and won't have to wait!

It was not at my local PAH but i will be going past again in 2 weeks so will look in again and see if she is there just to make sure!

When I got Daisy she hadn't quite finished her quarantine so they put her in the back overnight and then we collected the next day. Hardly any paperwork or checks to go through with PAH either. In and out on the Sunday in less than 30 mins.

Update: i went into my local P@H and mentioned to them about the GP in the adoption at the other branch. they were shocked that the store would not let me take her. they said at their store they actively encourage single pigs to be put with a friend or at least tried with other pigs.
We called the other store and she has definately gone to a new home...
At least i have the spare hutch set up ready and the okay from the OH for the next GP that needs a new home...
