Can UK based Guinea Pig parents recommend any Pet Insurance companies and plans for me? Mercifully my lads are in good health and have only been to the vet for nail clipping but it's best to be prepared so I'm looking for advice from those more experienced!

There is only one company that does insurance for guinea pigs. It is quite steep if you want to cover to a higher amount. You also have to read the small print as there are some exceptions.

I had insurance for the first year I had piggies. But the hike in price for the second year put me off. So now, like most on here, I put money away for vet fees.

PS the company is exotic direct.

Only one company? Guinea pigs are such common pets so I'm a bit surprised and concerned about that. Thank you for the info though, I'll have a look at that site.

They’re quite common but they’re also considered exotic pets. Hence the reason that not all vets are experienced in treating them.

Yep as above - exotic direct is the company for piggies.
And for that reason and the excesses, a lot of us don’t insure them and instead have a vet fund saved up

In the absence of good insurance I have a vet fund that I add to regularly.
As well as gaining me a little bit of interest it means the funds are there when needed

I found the advice to save in a vet fund when I joined the forum and it’s been a real blessing to have it. Vet bills can be very high.

I always had all of my piggies insured with exotics direct, I didn’t find the premiums rose much at all, they always stayed around £15 per month per pig (I had I believe £5k cover per pig per year).

I’d have loved to have had a vet find but I didn’t have the ‘excess’ cash monthly to put aside, so the insurance worked better for me.

I didn’t ever claim on any of the policies, though!
