is there anything wrong with using a fabric cat carrier over a plastic one for piggies? my girls are getting bigger and already are growing out of their current carrier, so need to buy a new one, is it only really it being easier to clean?

We have a large plastic cat carrier, think it was amazons basics. We tried a fabric carrier, but unfortunately Hector decided to have a little nibble, so that was the end of that one.
I also find the plastic one easier to clean, we line it with newspaper or a fleece pad with a LOT of hay!

great thanks, will probably get a plastic one to be honest! is it something along these lines?
i used to have a fabric carrier for my rainbow girls and didn’t have a problem with chewing but have noticed my girls, especially luna, loves a good chew lol😆

Probably personal preference in a lot of cases.

I have a plastic cat carrier. Easier to clean. I don’t have to travel far to my vet in the car but if something was to happen on the journey, I’d like to think they’d be more protected in a plastic one.

Ours is very similar too.

I have both, a white plastic "hardshell" one like you posted, and a black and blue canvas/fabric one. I'd bought the canvas one before I ended up taking in my pair and I'd rather a hardshell one for the skinnies. However I prefer the canvas ones in general.

i used to have a canvas one too! now worried about possible chewing of the canvas one🤣 i used to love mine though!

The way I see it, if they're gonna chew, they're gonna chew, and that includes the hardshell carriers too. Hard plastic won't put off a piggy determined to gnaw.

I always wonder how to properly clean the canvas ones. I use hard plastic because it's easier to clean, especially with my boys.

have you got a picture of yours at all?

Like I said, this won't really be used with the skinnies.

There's a canvas sheet on the bottom that pulls out for easier cleaning and one end unzips fully (the other doesn't, it's more for poking a head outside of.

I think hard plastic may be better for piggies as they are quite delicate, I would worry that a Canvas one might squish them or jar their little legs when you plonk it down- hard plastic is safer and easier to secure in the car too.
We have Amazon basics cat carriers, that hold 2 piggies and have a top-loading hatch as well as a door at the front- we usuallu pop in a few sheets of newspaper, a bit of hay, and a fleecy peepad or cuddle couch so they dont skid about. And cucumber chunks for any trip over an hour, to keep them hydrated :)

yeah i’ve seen a few flimsy looking ones that look as though they may squash down but also some that seem really sturdy, almost like a fabric dog crate. ill have to take a look at that one as was after one with an opening top! thanks!

My plastic one splits into top and bottom like the earlier pic so the 2 halves also double as outdoor pigloo hideys on the grass on warm weather... handy!
