I live in Mississippi- in the United States. We use a pest control company that sprays regularly as does everyone here. If you don't, your home will be full of giant cockroaches and mosquitoes. I'm worried now though, that my last baby's demise could have been related. She became immobile shortly after they sprayed. I talked to the technician before they came in and he assured me the chemicals wouldn't effect her. Now I'm not sure. I have 2 precious baby boys now and would like advice to keep them safe. Not spraying is not an option. We would absolutely have 3 inch roaches crawling on us at night. Should I remove them and their housing spaces ( we have indoor and outdoor- they are indoors 95 percent of the time because of the heat) when the company comes to spray?

Hi

I would recommend to remove them from your premises during spraying if that is possible and safe (re.hot weather/heat stroke etc).

A lot of commonly used chemicals are pet safe, but this rarely means they have been tested on exotics like guinea pigs.
Just to be on the safe side I would move them elsewhere for the day if at all possible, and make sure you air the room they will be in thoroughly before they come back.

I've used a home product called permethrin as a surface spray for crawling insects. I removed the pigs and their housing, cleaned and sprayed, vented the area until the pong dispersed and replaced everyone. It was fine. Permethrin is quite specifically toxic for cats - which we don't have - but not other things like piggies. It might be worth asking your company about the active ingredients and toxicity to pets etc... they might already have the info to hand!
