Hey everyone,
I rescued a Peruvian Guinea Pig nearly two weeks ago.
I was just wondering how often people give them a trim?
This is Pascal aka the mop
Any help would be appreciated. 😊

Oh my word how gorgeous 😍😍 I do not have any experience with longer haired piggies I have short haired, but there is always someone able to give great advice on this forum

With my long haired I always keep the hair around the back end and sides short constantly for hygiene purposes - so it is not dragging in the ground. Every six/eight weeks it’ll need a trim.
The rest of the hair is cut short all over for summer to help keep cool.

An Illustrated Guide to Hair Cutting

What a cutie! I've had a couple of sheltie crosses in the past and just recently brought home a sheltie cross who has a LOT more of the long coat than my previous pigs. I basically cut when it starts getting tangled/peed on. I just try to keep it off the ground. None of my pigs have enjoyed hair cuts and my new girl is more stressful than most, so I try to distract her with food and just snip away at the back without her noticing. Once she wises up to what I'm up to she starts leaping around and we're done for the day!

Thanks for the heads up. Trimming Pascal is going to be very interesting!

You may find that you need to do a bit, leave it for a few days and do a bit more. It all depends on how he takes to it. Not all piggies sit like The Ever Beautiful Betsy did for filming of the videos in my guide. It took a couple of years for her to sit nicely and have an all over beach bod trim for the summer or a very fashionable wedge cut around her bum. I would trim her bum and skirts every 6 weeks to stop it getting tangled and to keep her hygienic and clean.

Hi here’s my pig Wilma before and after her summer hair cut. We tend to use a mixture of clippers and scissors. We have had a her a couple of years and some times she’s better than others depends on her mood. I am a hairdresser so have old hair dressing scissors I use. I tend to brush her out then go round the shape. We use the small clippers around her bottom area mainly every couple of weeks especially as she’s white and a big haircut every couple of months or whenever we feel is needed. We also find brushing everyday or every other day keeps any knots at bay. Hope you enjoy your new piggy he’s gorgeous. Xx

Timmy (Peruvian) needs cutting about every 6-8 weeks in the summer. I let it go a bit longer in the winter. I put an old towel in the bath, kneel on the floor and cut his hair in the bath. He is very prone to panic and blind jumps. I use a pair of the Pets at Home scissors with the rounded ends.
