Hi everyone. Just got Pepper out for his evening playtime and noticed he had two red flaky patches on his legs. One front and one back. I’ll be calling the vets on Monday but just wanted your opinions on it too.

Here’s a photo of the front leg. Couldn’t get a clear picture of the back but it looks similar to the front but it’s more white and less red.

He had mites last year could it be that again?

Poor boy, that does look sore :( I guess it could be mites. My other thought would be could he have done it to himself through self biting? But there would be a cause for him doing that. I advise a vet check

Definitely worth a vet check but an odd place for mites... looks like he has been chewing the paw maybe, could he be in pain? Or does he come from a background that has left him with some anxiety issues that might make him chew his feet? I think paw chewing in many animals can be like a psychological issue, gets to be a habit when they are nervous... like humans biting their nails or grinding their teeth...

Thanks. He came from a small breeder last November. He had mites (surprise surprise). We sorted them out. Now these two patches. 🤔. Percy was fine last time and seems fine now. So just Pepper. Vets Monday then hopefully.

I do have a dilemma. Percy and Pepper get on great in the hutch but are a bit naughty at playtime. Just the usual peeing on each other and rumble strutting. Do I take them both to the vets? I’m thinking not. As they will definitely argue in the carry cage. But then Percy might be lonely left behind and Pepper might be scared alone at the vets! 😬

I managed to get a picture of the patch on Peppers back leg. Didn’t manage to get in at the vets today so I’ll be trying tomorrow 🤞

They can’t get me in until Thursday! That’s most unusual. Maybe they have a lot of vets off or something? Pepper does seem a tiny bit more quiet than usual. But maybe that’s because I’m checking on him more as I’m worried. He’s eating fine so 🤞. I’ll post what the vet says. Thanks. 😊

Quick update. The patches had got much better by the time I’d got him in at the vets 🤦🏻‍♀️. But I took him and showed them the photos anyway. Vet said it looked like he’d bitten or scratched himself. So they have prescribed Xeno again for mites. Only two treatments this time as she said it’s not certain he has mites. 🤔. Then she said his back looked like “scurvy skin”? And started talking about walking dandruff. So I’m not really sure if he has mites or not. But I’ll treat them both and see what happens. Pepper was a very good boy for his first time at the vets. Think it was because he was terrified.

Poor lad, hope the treatment does the trick and Pepper gets better soon
