Penny occasionally pees in her hay rack, which is so frustrating for me to clean out. I'm wondering if these corner potties work, maybe put some hay in it and she knows to go in it then? Has anyone used these before and would recommend it?

I've used these and found they just pee in them, we have a cat litter tray that they do pee in but the square/rectangle shape makes it muc easier to clean, might be worth trying one?
Hope I helped... :D:D

My experience is that if you give guinea pigs a pile of hay they will lie in it if they can. And where guinea pigs lie they will both pee and poop. By giving them a tray with hay in you make it likely that much of the pee and poop will go in the tray because they will lie in the hay. I use a seed tray lined with newspaper and piled high with meadow hay, and there is always much pee and poop in it. There is also pee and poop just next to it (where they lie to eat the hay that sticks over the edge), under the log arch (where they like chilling out) and randomly all over the cage. Few guinea pigs will ever reach what humans would call "potty trained"...

I got one of those today and guess what Penny did...she pushed it to the side and pooped in the corner! Lol. Now that I've tied it to her cage she can't move it. I filled it with hay but she's only eating it haha. Maybe she doesn't know what to do with it just yet

I would like my pigs to eat clean hay from a hay rack. That is my dream.

Reality is that they eat the hay from their "bedding" that they lie in and wee and poo in. Anything in a rack remains untouched until every scrap outside the rack is gone....

How big is it? If its big enough and the hay looks good enough then she'll most likely jump in before too long (and then pee and poop on it, and then eat it some more...)

I give my six a 32 litre under bed storage box with hemp bedding and hay and 2 small plastic dog beds with the same. They do lots of wees in them. They also have a magazine rack for clean hay.

Works well. I clean the hay trys out most days. They are on fleece cage liners which I de-poo every day and replace every few days when they are starting to get wet.

Mine do most of their pee and poop in their hay pans, which I really like because I know where to clean the most, their hay pan.
I get Kaytee hay delivered to my house by mail regularly, and they will eat their Kaytee hay even after they pee on it. I will throw out soiled hay every 2 days, then I put puppy pee pad on the bottom of the hay pan, then load hay on top of it. This really works for me.

These are my new hay pans for Finn and Lara. They get one of each in their cages, and one is for their playpen so I bought three.
The size of the hay pan is roughly 20cm height, 31cm length, 36cm width, which translates to around 8 inch high, 12 inches length and 14 inches width.
I wanted bigger hay pans and these are pretty generous in size. Their old hay pan is a bit smaller and shorter in height so hay would spill out.

Here’s what it looks like. She’s only used it once and I got it on Friday. If anything, she’s pooped in her hay rack more! Am I supposed to do anything different?FFA5E8B3-A4A3-4A69-BBCA-2C9901E4D28A.webp

No I’ve got two of those corner ones and all Bill and Ted do is sit in them eating the hay and peeing. Frankly they are a waste of time with my two. They seem to prefer eating hay that’s been pee’d and poo’d on off the floor. They also won’t eat hay out of hay racks either. There just mucky little blighters!

Jezebel floof likes to sleep, eat, pee and poop in the corner trays. I leave them in the cage because she likes them so much not because they make the cage any cleaner :) she'll sit in the freshly refilled corner tray for an hour every evening until every scrap of hay has been recycled into lovely poops! Its her special thing where the other piggies dont bother her...

I have just ordered one of these on your recommendation @Seven7:nod: . My current hay tray is the bottom of a travel carrier which I was never happy with anyway but couldn't think what else to use in the run.:hmm: Thanks for giving me the idea.:)

Penny didn't use the corner potty at all today (and pooped in her hay again!) so I actually took it out and put it in Cocoa's "bathroom corner" to see if she will use it! I also raised Penny's hay rack up a bit so it will be harder for her to stick her butt in there lol

You're welcome.
I want to add both me and my piggies love the new hay pans. It is much roomier for them to hop in and eat hay while going to the bathroom. I love it because the hay stays inside mostly and cleaning is easier. I don't have to go search where the pee and poo are because most of it is in the hay pan.

Seven7 where did you get your litter trays from? X

I use those corner litter trays for my hamsters. They seem way too small for guinea pigs or rabnits (which they are marketed for).

My trio are really good. Most of their wee is in their litter trays (lined with newspaper and filled with hay). My pair, on the other hand, seldom wee in the litter tray, instead they tend to wee in corners or, frankly, anywhere the mood takes them. It means that only the trio get floor time in the living room, as they can be trusted not to pee the carpet, Bobby and Bailey are limited to the piggy room, as they are free range piddlers lol.

Betsy, those trays look great. I meant the much smaller triangular ones designed to fit in corners.
