So, normal cleaning was taking place and Dennis had his spikes out (pretty normal) but as I squeezed water over him, this happened.... it just... came away? And left behind a soft part from underneath. One of our other pigs was sniffing around his nether regions fairly aggressively before I picked him up. Anyway, it looks pretty painful and scary and I’m worried. But I’ve cleaned him gently, it doesn’t seem to hurt him and he’s all ‘tucked away’ now so it’s not open to general cage mess. Do they grow back?! Will it heal? Poor Den :(

It will heal, but if in doubt or of there is any sign of infection or pain, please see a vet!

Your comment about being penile crazy made me laugh. My long haired piggy always gets hair stuck in his and makes it look like it's prolapsed. So I have to gently pull the hairs back. I haven't seen anything like your pic on my four boars though, looks like it could be frightening to see for the first time. What are the spikes you mentioned?

Yeah mine too! These are the ‘spikes’ haha - penile styles, all boars have them but they’re usually hidden away :)1A175E36-BA8D-40D6-9680-2671A14F0AB3.webp

A little update for anyone who finds this thread having a similar problem...

The damaged style is much less red today and is clean and comfortable. It looks like it’s hardening up like the other one and healing nicely - will post a picture of progress later!

Thanks for this, they are hard to know if they are sperm rods? They all look similar to me.
