Peanut has squishy poos and weighs 44 grams less than she did a few days ago. Not sure what's going on. Local vet can't see her for two weeks. Don't want her to wait that long so once offices open in the morning I'm going to call around and see if another vet can see her sooner. If not, then it's off to the emergency vet in another state. We've started syringe feeding her and her weight is stable with just two feedings a day so she's eating some on her own. Just wish I knew what was going on. Seems more sleepy than usual. She is at least 3 and a half now. Not sure if it's age related?

Take her off veg and grass for now. Hopefully it may correct itself but you can also get her checked over if you’re still worried. Hope she’s feeling better soon.

Aw bless her. Please take her off of all fresh veg and grass only feeding her hay, pellets and water. I hope you can have her seen soon. I doubt it's age related as 3 and a half isn't old at all x

I hope that you can get her seen soon.
It's not likely that it's age related.
All fingers and paws crossed!

Good luck and I hope you can get an appointment sooner.
Hopefully it is something simple, and the syringe feeding helps in the meantime.

Thank you for the kind words. Will update as soon as we get her to the vet today.

They're going to give her fluids and prescribe Reglan to help with gut motility. We should start giving her vitamin C drops. Increase syringe feedings to 4-6 times per day. Not sure of cause, but hopefully these things will help. I asked for an xray to see if that tells them anything. They don't want to prescribe Cisapride and weren't really clear why. Hopefully, the Reglan will help. They also prescribed metacam for pain. Poor thing seems exhausted. I hope she's feeling better soon.

Aw bless her. I hope the meds help and that she is feeling better soon x
Thank you very much. Me too. They want to give her a vitamin C injection. I've not had a piggy get that before so that makes me a bit nervous. Trying to trust the vet and hope that she'll be OK.

I’ve never heard of a vitamin C injection either but I don’t think it will do any harm as excess vitamin C is just excreted through the urine. I hope it helps

Home with Peanut. Was able to feed her a bit of critical care. Maybe 10 syringe fulls. Need to sleep a little because I have another 10 hour shift at work tonight. Will feed her again in a few hours when I get up. Luckily I work from home so I'll be able to check on her through the night. Just scares me because she's so lethargic. She's acting like some of the other pigs did (that we had) before they died. She'll swallow food that we syringe her but really does not want to eat. Keeps turning her head away and fighting feeding. I hope she makes it. She has an appointment again tomorrow for fluids again so at least we already have something booked at the vet in case she needs more medical attention. I do believe we're doing everything we can for her. It's just scary because I know the outcome is out of my hands. They gave her metacam for pain so at least hopefully she is comfortable.

I needed a hug reaction button for your last post
Holding you and Peanut in my heart ♥️

Hope she pulls through. She’s in excellent hands with you.

Thank you. I really appreciate the support. I called the vet back and found out that they are open 24 hours so if she needs help over the Rainbow Bridge, or seems to be suffering, we can get her help at any time, thank goodness. They are 35 minutes away but much closer than the emergency vet I used to use. I just don't understand how this happened. She was fine just a few days ago. This seemed to have come out of no where. Thank you again for the kind words. It means a lot.

It does with guinea pigs sometimes.
They hide illness so we’ll that by the time we notice anything wrong they are very ill.
You are a very attentive owner and acted promptly as soon as you saw something wrong so let’s hope she pulls through now.

Fed Peanut a few more times as the day wore on today. I will feed her again after my night shift ends in a few hours. Unfortunately, I don't think she's doing any better. Not sure if it's a case of needing to allow the medication time to "do its thing" or if she's just not going to get better. Trying to remind myself that I'm doing the best that I can and to just take it one moment at a time.

Peanut showed some signs of improvement this evening, thank God. I'm shocked to see it because she was doing so bad last night, but I am ever so grateful. She actually took some water out of her water bottle when I held it up for her (instead of me having to just syringe water). She cleaned herself a few times. She's swallowing syringe food a bit more quickly. She's moving around a bit more (instead of sitting in one spot all the time). Here's hoping things continue to improve. She got fluids this afternoon and will get them again tomorrow too.

Peanut seems more bloated this morning and less interested in water, taking longer to eat critical care. At the vet yesterday they said that she seems a little better as far as that goes, but IDK today she looks a little worse to me. I had some Cisapride leftover from another piggy so I started that in tandem with the Reglan. Our main vet likes to use both when needed so I thought it was worth a shot to see if that helps to get things moving. She went from diarrhea two days ago to only pooping a few times in the past 24 hours. Going to keep doing our best and help her be as comfortable as possible. She gets fluids again later today. That appointment is with a technician. Don't know if we'll be able to talk to the vet again, but will try. Here's hoping she has a good day.

Peanut had a pretty good day today. The bloat went down a bit. She's drinking water a bit on her own again. She's even nibbling at hay on her own. We are continuing to feed her every 2 to 3 hours even during the night because she doesn't eat much on her own. I increased metacam which really seemed to help. I'm grateful for the dosing advice on the forum because vets in my area don't seem comfortable with recommending a dose that is high enough so I've had to figure it out on my own without their help. She seems much more comfortable with the higher and more frequent dosing of metacam. Here's hoping this upswing continues.

I’m lucky that my vets are very up to date with Metacam dosing and the speed at which it metabolises. As a short term measure my vets have prescribed large doses twice daily. When Ralphie had bloat he had 1 ml of dog Metacam twice a day for 5 days. It did him no harm and helped to ease his discomfort. I hope that Peanut feels much more comfy with her increased dose. Well done for working it our for her.

Sending lots of healing vibes to Peanut, would a gentle tummy message help. I tried it with my Ted when he got bloat after a GA and it relieved a pocket of wind that was causing the bloat, he turned a corner after that
Hang in there you are doing a great job x
