Just noticed, Martin my 2 year old boar nibbling on the peace lily. He's never been near any of the plants before and only turned my back for a second. Now terrified. There's a good couple of nibble marks out of it. What should I do?

He is the fussiest pig. Turns his nose up at everything...but poison? Oh yum, he'll eat that!
I'm not going to be able to get him to a vet tonight but I'll keep an eye and call them first thing. Fingers crossed he's OK.

He seems fine at the moment. Eating, plodding around. Poops are normal. Keeping my fingers crossed. I'm so annoyed with myself though. They've never gone near any of the plants in 18 months of running around downstairs. Didn't want to have to put the c&c up every time again but looks like I'll have to

Now I don't want to alarm you, but...

According to the website linked below, it's toxic (also found elsewhere that it's deadly).

A-Z of Dangerous Plants for Small Animals

Personally I'd get vet advice. They may give activated charcoal to prevent anymore toxins being absorbed (I know they do for cats and dogs. Small animals I'm unsure of)

I’m assuming that your location of Lancaster is in the UK, but in case it’s one of the US cities with that name, I’d reach out to petpoisonhelpline.com and inquire. It’s well worth the $65 charge, especially if you cannot access a vet today. (Also, they may provide service outside of the US, not entirely sure.)

My piggy ate a lily leaf and when I Googled it said that it was poisonous to cats so I rang the vets and they said to bring him in straight away. The vet had him in overnight and pushed extra fluids through him to flush through the kidneys to prevent any damage. He was fine afterwards and is still here a few years later.

However, the vet also said that it might not have done him any harm at all and they just don't know what's poisonous to piggies as they don't publish research on guinea pigs.

I had this when I was new to keeping piggies as well. No idea which one of the three had a little nibble but kept a close eye on them and luckily all was fine. Fingers crossed he remains well

Pleased to report he is still here this morning and munching on his brekkie!
He only had a few nibbles. Hopefully that didn't do him too much harm. Silly piggy!
I'm so glad he's ok. Maybe move the plant to a place where he can't get to before letting him run around again just so he doesn't make the same mistake again.

Such a relief to hear he's doing well.

Glad he is doing ok, plants in the lily family contain calcium oxalate crystals which can cause severe acute irritation of the mouth, throat and gut. But longer term, this is a big cause of kidney issues and stones, so try to feed extra watery veg and syringe some water, also cut out any high calcium foods for a couple of weeks (pellets, broccolli, parsley, spinach etc) to give the kidneys a proper flush through and give him chance to eliminate the calcium.
Hopefully a tiny amount is fine if he didnt exhibit any acute symptoms, but... if it was my piggy I would be feeding cucumbers in abundance for a while and restricting many other foods for a good kidney flush just to make sure!

Thanks everyone. He still seems OK. I'm usually pretty sparce with the calcium rich foods anyway. If he had it his way, he'd be eating kale all day but it's only a treat! He will however be pleased to hear he's getting extra cucumber!
I have quite a few house plants on the floor round the house and they've never even investigated before but I'll be moving them from now on and keeping an eye on him too!
