My son Wiki is 2.5 years old. Wiki greets you all. He has a pea-sized lump on the left side of his back. like the sebaceous glands in women. I can't touch him, I think he's in pain. The vet said it was a benign lipoma. but I live in Turkey. There is almost no veterinarian here who understands guinea pigs. I trusted the vet and am keeping the swelling under surveillance. Should I take him to another vet? I would like those who have experienced this problem before to share their experiences with me. Thank you from now.

Hi and welcome

Sebaceous cysts and fatty lumps (lipomas) are the most common harmless lumps in guinea pigs; they can appear anywhere on the body and they are usually best left alone.

They only need operative removal if they suddenly go into runway growth mode were they grow to up to 5cm in a matter of a few days or even hours, cysts burst or the lumps impede movement (when they are on or near a leg or the genitalia etc.). Some piggies have a genetic disposition to get more of them as they get older. I hope that this helps you?

But I would not worry if I were you. Neither variety of lump is tender or painful and can be touched and felt. Your vet should be familiar with them since other pet species also get them.

Thank you very much. Your answer is really helpful. My anxiety has decreased a little 💞
We lost Wiki's brother to illness 20 days ago. I was very worried when Lipoma appeared on wiki

BIG HUGS

I m very sorry for your loss. We have got a Rainbow Bridge section that is open to anybody who would like to post a tribute to their lost piggy at any stage during or any time after the end of the grieving process. There is however no obligation since some members find it too challenging to go there. It has to feel right for you and Wiki. But the option is there.
Rainbow Bridge Pets

It is also very normal even for people without anxiety issues to be more jittery in the wake of a loss. Be kind with yourself and give yourself time to grieve. If you struggle with the process then you may find the link here helpful.

Bann has had a marble sized lump on his right belly for at least 15 months. It hasn't grown or caused him any discomfort or issues in that time.

If your vet is okay with it, I would be too. I know it's easy to worry (especially after the loss of your other boy, RIP little one) but such benign lumps can appear out of nowhere and just stick around with no issues, like Bann's lump.

Wiki'yi sürekli takip etmeye devam ediyoruz.

I'm glad Bann's swelling didn't hurt him. I will continue to follow the wiki constantly. thanks

This is an old photo because he likes to disappear every time the camera appears, but you can see it here just behind his shoulder. It's been pretty much the same since it appeared.
