Can pea flakes still be given to a pig prone to bladder stones? I know a lot isn't advised. But as a treat are they still fine? Or do they need to be avoided please?

I really can't see that the odd one every few weeks would hurt but I did give them up as per vet instructions. This was a few years ago when I had a piggy who had a stone removal operation. My present piggies do get one or two every couple of weeks but I tend to forget about them! Mine tend to get an extra bit of cucumber, dandelion leaf etc as a treat rather than bought pet shop type treats.

Thank you. I'm feeding quite a lot of cucumber at the moment. And they do enjoy it. It seems to reduce pain- i assume because it makes urine more dilute and Pumpkin doesn't drink.

Mine eat a handful of grass daily which I think helps bladders. Their biggest treat at the moment is a thick grass stalk. I brush my fleece off over the veg patch before washing and I think it's Timothy Grass from the hay seeds, the stalks are really thick. They get one stalk each separate from their grass time as there aren't many and I want to make them last. The veg patch looks a mess but I can't dig the grass clumps up because it's piggy food! I was advised to feed a thick slice of cucumber (quarter inch) twice a day (morning and evening) as a good source of water, too much cucumber/watery veg can cause soft poop. It's hard to find a balance sometimes. These bladder piggies are such a worry. I've had 3 over the years with stones and I hope I never get another one, it's my biggest dread with having guinea pigs.

I don't have any safe grass ( shared garden at the back). At the front the council cut it and strim so I'm wary of pesticides. But I've bought some pots and I was gong to grow some grass in them, though limited to how much they will get. That is very cool that you are growing Timothy grass!

Cucumber wise mine have half a mini cucumber in the morning with other veg, random chunk of normal cucumber at another time, and mini cucumber again at night with other veg. We've had this routine before Pumpkin got a stone though so obviously didn't work. It seemed to help Nancy flushing through with her IC which is why I did it.
