Hi everyone!
I noticed last night that Patrick wasn’t acting himself, I popped him on my lap hoping that he’d poop or pee, which he didn’t. I was quite certain he had developed bloat. Just before I noticed he was sick, thought he was just sleepy! he happily ate his veggies.
But when it came to pellet time he wasn’t very interested in them so I knew for sure he was unwell. He was excited for a couple of syringes of critical care and a small dose of metacam.
At 5am he was sitting in the hay tray slowly eating some hay but also looking uncomfortable.
7.30 am I still hadn’t noticed him poop so took him straight to the vet which is an hour away and then straight to work for 9.30 meaning I’ve left him at the vets for ongoing care throughout the day.
I’ve been trying my best not to worry too much as he is still relatively active and has a small appetite.
Vet phoned at 1pm, he still hadn’t pooped but still bright in himself. He’s had an X-ray which showed nothing too interesting which is good! But there is a bit of gas. So he’s had medication and injections to help his gut move and also pain relief. Hoping that his gut will start moving this afternoon! He’s got his next injection at 5pm and I’ll pick him up at 6.
I really hope he gets better, I love him so much! And his 3 wives would be lost without him 😭

Please get better soon Patrick. Healing wheeks to him and hugs for you.

Poor Patrick. Bloat comes out of nowhere. Hope he’s soon pooping again and feeling more comfortable.

Thank you everyone for your get well wishes for Patrick.
He’s done one singular poop about 3.30pm at the vets. He’s home now he’s been eating some hay and now having a nap. I THINK he done a couple of poops where he sat, but they may not be his. But they felt fresh. I’m going to clean the cage soon so I can look exactly where he sits and see if there’s any poops!

Get well soon, Patrick - hope you can do a nice big pile of poops for your hooman slaves soon

Healing wheeks for Patrick, good work getting to the vets so fast- early intervention with gut stimulants can make all the difference! X

Sorry to learn Patrick’s not well Hannah. Sending healing vibes and well wishes. My Frankie had the same problem earlier this year and all went well after a a couple of vet visits and gut stimulates thereafter. I do wonder whether us piggie lovers were dung Beatles in a previous life as we love to see an abundance of piggie poop. You’ve been very vigilant so Patrick has every chance of a successful recovery. Hope he gifts you with poops aplenty
