i'm thinking of changing the cage. at the moment, it's a 9x2 c+c but arranged with a 5x2 at the back and a 4x2 infront. ideally i would like to make the main cage part 6x2 instead but this would mean that one grid would be right by the radiator. is this ok if they are able to actually get away from the heat if they want to? our downstairs is basically one big room and it's the main radiator downstairs so needs to be on otherwise the house gets very very cold. it's also an old radiator and can't be turned down or anything. any advice please :)

I have an oil filled radiator on full next to the piggies night compartment in their hutch. They go to the day compartment to cool down if they get too warm. ;)

i suppose they're sensible enough to move away from there if they get too warm. we have the heating on a constant comfortable temperature from about september to march because this house gets really cold. it's only really the very cold weather in winter when we turn it up higher.

aslong as it doesn't melt the piggies!
Do you have correx?
I would just keep an eye on it.
We have a radiator right near the c&c, and it is a small room so doesn't need to be on anyway, but we had to turn it off as I was concerned about melting the correx.

yes, we have correx. i wondered whether the actual grids would heat up aswell? might have to leave it for now and have a re-think. i definitely want to lift the main part of the cage up slightly though. i don't like it being directly on the floor.

Perhaps you could source some kind of fire retardant material, or something that reflects heat to put around that edge of the C&C so that the heat doesnt get through to them? I have a section of mine nest to a radiator, but not touching and I don't find the piggies uncomfortable at all and the metal never heats up.
