how would piggies get on if you just bedded them on a thick layer of paper and hay, which would be changed every other day? what do you guys think?

Hi Claire
I think a lot of people do this - especially those with lots of piggies as it's easier than washing fleeces etc x

just thinking along the lines of buying in bulk. thinking this way i could have a higher turn over of hay, which would mean i could buy it in bigger quantities and it'd be better quality for them too!

I have five and in out new pad we want them free ranging (as soon as sonny's had his op and 8weeks after!) which will be so much fun for them!

I think it would be fine, I keep all my shredding for the piggies ...... I put it in the bed area with newspaper, layer of megazorb, then paper and hay :))

I've always bedded mine on newpaper/hay in their beds and just newspaper in the living area, and the pigs get on fine. My friends are all in the habit of saving their papers so my pigs get to read a wide array of papers....from the Sun and Sport to the Times. They seem to prefer the Sun for some reason.....might be because they're all boars?!

i think its fine i use to do it with all my piggies although now i have 3 cages fleece and one cage newspaper and hay as Raplh and Basil were OTT bad with burrowing uinder the fleece, the hay works well providing like you said it would be cleaned regularly, flies can come a little more when lots of hay is around,
I'm buying one of those fly eating plants for the piggy room before summer;) x
