Hello

My piggy looks a bit peaky, his nose and lips are normally quite pink but they look a bit pale today. I have just been on holiday, and he was looked after while I was away but didn't have company for long each day.

After putting him outside for a scamper the colour came back to normal (yesterday) but now he's looking a bit pale again.

Does anyone know if this is a sign of something serious or has he just been a bit lonely ? We also recently had to re-home another piggy as these 2 didn't get on. They were in separate cages as they fought but not sure if this AND our holiday might have affected him. He's eating and drinking ok.

Thanks for any help you can give !

Hi Boo,

In humans paleness is a sign of anemia so I am wondering if that applies to pigs too. Hope someone with knowledge can help. How old is he?

Hope he is ok,

Louise
:)

Hello Louise

Thanks for your post, :) you're right I wonder if it is anaemia. He was a stray that appeared in our garden so I can only guess that he's about a year old. He gets spinach fairly often, not sure what else would work.
I just wondered if it was because he hadn't been outside and had any fresh air for a week, he's out there now so I'll do a colour test when he comes in again !

If anyone else knows about pale (but very cute) piggy lips please advise !

Thanks :)

i know nothing about pale lips and noses, but hoping your piggy gets better and that you find him a friend soon. keep an eye on him and if concerned perhaps take him to the vet to make sure he is alright. pale lips could mean anemia and also infection as i though pale gums do. hugs and healing vibes :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Could it be circulatory problems? If he went pinker when he was running around, it probably got his blood flowing again.

If he hasn;t been outside or had a chance to stretch his legs in a while, then that could be it.

Keep an eye on him :) I hope its nothing serious

Does he get veggies everyday? :)

Hello
Thanks for all your advice, yes he gets veggies twice a day but he's a fussy little pig ! He seems normal in his behaviour too.
The circulatory idea seems likely, if he hasn't been up to much for a week, like us he will get pale I guess ! Might have to get him a lead and take him for walkies :smitten:
Thanks again all,
Boo
