Can anyone tell me what paint would be safe to use on the wooden frame of a C&C cage? It's the outer wooden bit. Thanks :)p

Has anyone used this before? http://www.protekwoodstain.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=17:wood-stain-a-protector&catid=3:products&Itemid=2

The site says it is pet and plant friendly and that it can be used on animal houses. It is water based and "contains no turpentine or white spirit in it's make up" but does say "with added wax and acrylic to make it one of the most effective water repellents currently available". It says pet friendly all over the website - Would this be ok? It wouldn't be inside the cage, but would be on the outer posts which will be supporting it.

If the posts are on the outside of the cage and the pigs can't reach them anyway, I would think that it wouldn't make any difference what you painted it with as long as you give it a few days to dry before putting it near them. :)

How is the cage project going? Have you had all of your deliveries of parts yet?

We have a base on castors (yaaayyyy!) along with 3 posts securely screwed (with one support across on one end) and then a half secure post on the 4th corner because the battery pack on the drill died rolleyes We are just waiting for it to charge back up.

Correx finally arrived after Citylink lost it! So we now have everything except for the door bolts and paint now :) I wanted it done this weekend but it's just not going to happen! By the week end is the new goal :(|) So excited!

Ooooh it sounds so close :) but how frustrating about the drill!:( Please take some stage by stage pictures as you are constructing it. I love the way people do that and the cage appears in stages like on Blue Peter!x)

Glad * asked this. I'm looking for the same so thanks for puting the link on for Protek wood stain- theyve got exactly what i need which is white exterior pet friendly.

BUT surely somewhere must have soemthing cheaper than 20quid for 5ltrs + postage

I have used wilkos own brand on my hutches and its only about a fiver ( altho some colours are 3 quid ) for 5ltrs but they only do wood colours

Anyone know of anything cheaper in normal paint colours?

I've bought the 1 litre in two different colours as I'm only doing a frame around a C&C, can see what you mean about it being pricey if you wanted a whole hutch though.

For a part of the cage the pigs won't get to I think you can use any paint really, as long as it's allowed to dry long enought for it not to smell. For painting something inside the hutch I've heard that it's ok as long as the paint is water soluble.

My piggies don't seem to like chewing on painted wood anyway, but it may be because they've got unpainted wood too.
