Hi all

Muffin is back to his normal self after bladder stone surgery 4 days ago but is still squeaking a bit when urinating and pooping. Is this normal? Is he just still a bit sore? Thank you all x

Glad Muffin is recovering well from the operation. Has he had his post op check up yet? It could still be sore. I’d call the vets to check. Is he on pain medication still?

Post op on Thurs and he is still on Metacam alongside Baytril and Cisapride x

Which medication is he on and at which dosage? Also is that twice a day?

0.07 horse Metacam , 0.12 Baytril and 0.13 Cisapride x
I didn’t even know they used horse metacam on piggies to be honest.
So I don’t know the exact workings of how they compare but considering the solution is 15mg, I would assume that what he is on is a decent dose.

Assuming your post op is this Thursday you may want to just keep an eye on him as it is possible that he still may be tender, but if it continues I would definitely bring it up with the vet considering the amount of painkillers he is on.

As said above you could always ring the vets just to double check this is normal, for him, as they will have all the background.

Hi

The bladder may need some more time to heal, especially if it has been rather badly scratched by the stone and the natural glucosamine coating that keeps the highly corrosive urine from coming into direct contact with raw tissue is damaged.

What medication is your piggy on? Have you been given a meloxicam based analgesic, like metacam or loxicom?
Would you consider supplementing with glucosamine for a few weeks?

Update- I took Muffin for his post op and the vet said that due to the bladder surgery he will have some cystitis like symptoms and that they were pleased with how he was doing. I am to continue with Baytril and Metacam. I mentioned that he barely drinks water so the vet said that I could try and add a few drops of apple juice to his water bottle. Has anyone ever done this? X

I would rather give water through a syringe, for example, instead. As your boy is on other medications you could give it at this time as he will not be caught off-guard by it, potentially causing him to aspirate.
I know as a general rule you do not want to put anything in their water, as you do not want to put piggy off drinking but I am not sure if this also stands for things a piggy may be "excited" to drink. I would personally stay away from it, just incase.

Glad to hear they are pleased with how he is getting on, and I hope it continues this way x
