Hi everyone, I’ve finally got some oxbow urinary support ’biscuits’ and also purchased some cranberry treats for my boy who has bladder sludge. He won’t eat either of them, shall I mush them up and syringe feed them?

I used to soak the urinary support tablets and spread bits of it on my piggies' salad and they got used to the taste that way. I only had to do this a couple of times before they became addicted to them.

Will try that thanks

Mine wouldn't eat them either.

I had a piggy with IC and I found the best nutraceutical for keeping him comfortable was Cystease, syringed twice a day :)

I’m not really sure what’s wrong with him, the vet treat him for uti and blood in urine/sludge. He’s not putting weight on and it’s been about 2 months since the uti was treat.

How did they treat the sludge? Surgery or catheter?

Has he had any scans?

I would definitely want further tests done if he's not gaining weight. In the mean time, try him on the cystease because it may at least help to make him more comfortable (though it does take a while to build up).

An inexperienced vet did a (guinea pig conscious) catheter after the X-ray. I took him to another vet who was savvy she suspected pyelonephritis as his urine was dilute. He’s peeing freely now has had one episode of blood again, two weeks of baytril and high dose pain meds. -both finished over a month ago. They said he would need further scans and a prolonged hospital stay and wasn’t very hopeful of him surviving. So we agreed to just complete the antibiotic and stopped the painkillers as he’s not in pain anymore. He eats like a horse and still has such a zest for life just is tiny.
