New Born Pup
Hi everyone!
My lovely 6-year-old girl has been having blood in her urine. No obvious signs of pain/discomfort, she eats and drinks fine, her poops are fine, she zooms during floor time.
We took her to the vet immediately, they suspected a UTI and prescribed a two-week course of Bactrim (along with probiotics of course). It did not clear the blood so she was put on Veraflox (pradofloxacin) for a week but her appetite disappeared almost immediately and she appeared really bloated so the vet suggested we stopped Veraflox. We went back on Bactrim for another week. Three weeks after - she is still occasionally peeing blood.
They did an ultrasound today. No stones, no bladder sludge, kidneys are perfectly fine. However, they found a mass on her ovary, ca. 3 cm. The vet did not seem too concerned and suggested we keep the mass monitored. They advised against a surgery at this stage as the mass is too small and it does not seem to be causing any concern to our piglet. That, plus her age they concluded it was best to leave it alone for now.
They also want us to continue with the Bactrim for two more weeks.
I was hoping to get some advice/feedback. I have read a lot around the topic, but I still cannot make up my mind.
What is the Bactrim supposed to do to a cyst? It is my understanding that the cyst will not disappear on its own, and that the only way to get rid of it is to remove the ovary.
Also, 3cm seems quite large to me. Am I worrying too much?
I appreciate all answers, and thanks heaps in advance!
