hi all, hope everyone is well!
not posted for a while but now summer is around the corner id like to ask about indoor pigs going outside!

i have quite bad anxiety and feel very worried around it so would like to make sure i’m doing everything properly!

firstly, is it possible to put the cage on paving slabs rather than grass (we only have grass in the front which i don’t feel comfortable putting them out there) in our garden or is this going to be bad for feet? i thought i could perhaps put a blanket down so its slightly nicer for them or is it okay straight on the slabs? then just put hides / hay / grass on this?

secondly, when in the year can they start being put out? what are the temperature gauges? both ways, so minimum the temp has to be as well as what would be too hot? my girls inside temp sits around 20 degrees, no lower than 18 no higher than 22, but them temperatures outside seem to be so much hotter than inside so I'm assuming it doesn’t work like that?

is there a maximum amount of time they should be out in the day too when they are indoors? i will probably think of 100s more questions but i hope this thread can help others in my situation!

thanks all🫶🏻🫶🏻

They can go out when daytimes are above 15 degrees (and obviously not wet); anything up to around 25 degrees is ok (they obviously need to be in shade).

Yes you should put something down on the slabs to make it softer for them to walk on.

There is no time limits as yours aren’t going to be on grass (any access to fresh grass built up slowly but as yours are going to be on slabs that isn’t a worry) - just depends on the weather and temperature. As we get further into summer then they will probably only be able to out first thing in the morning and last thing in the evening (thus avoiding the heat of the day)

thanks so much!

so if one day was 15degrees for a few hours youd just put them out just in that time or does it have to be like a constant 15 throughout the day? hope that makes sense!

will a blanket be enough?🤔 or does it have to be padded?

yes fantastic i know that about the grass!

thanks so much!

If it got colder during the day then you would bring them in - eg they may only be out an hour or two rather than all day

You would went something absorbent underneath otherwise your slabs could get messy and the fleece damp
