hello, I'm new! I haven't had guinea pigs since i was little, about 15 years ago now!

As there appears to be a lot of experts on here, I am curious as to what hutch anyone could recommend. The guinea pigs will be living outside and can be moved into our garage which is attached to the house in the winter, and I will be getting two guinea pigs. I live near some woods and we do get the occasional fox in the garden, so I am after the best fox proof hutch!
I would rather a hutch and then a separate run, and I don't want to spend crazy amounts of money on either.

If anyone could help that would be great!
Thanks :)

Welcome to the forum :)

I don't know anything about hutches, as ours are indoors. But we have had a new member join who makes high quality ones @The Hutch Man

I have tagged him in for you and hopefully someone may be able suggest some good commercial ones too.

Hi iggy94,

I'm afraid I could not describe myself as an expert having only just become the owner of two boys very recently. But the hutch I have for them is pets@home Dandelion Den. Here is a link to it in the Members Gallery: Hutches http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/threads/member-gallery-hutches.53209/page-8

As you are concerned about foxes I would point out the strong bars on the hutch as opposed to wire mesh which a lot of other hutches have. Also price wise if you order online there is 20% off at the moment, making the cost just £64, which to me seems very good value for money. You may want to add some extra bolts to the doors for added protection, but with foxes around I think you would have to do that whatever hutch you purchased. For added safety the slide-out tray may be more secure if you screwed it to the back of the hutch as I've done with mine.

I hope this helps. Oh, and welcome to the forum! :wel:

Thank you both.
I had a look at the one from pets at home that you suggested, Barrett bonded thank you. The only thing that worries me is that is very low to the floor, I've been looking for one that was more raised as I feel it would give a little more protection.
Do you think it is possible to put it on a table or something?

I've got a Dandelion Hutch from P @ H last year. However I feel it is too near the ground and mice could easily get in. I did see one running round the edge of the garden in the evening last year. I lost a guinea pig due to unexplained illness last year after he'd been outside overnight in the warm weather(he was usually kept indoors). I have a nagging doubt that his illness MAY have been due to mice getting into the hut at night. So I have never used the hutch since then.

If you don't have your piggies yet, it's worth having a look around at the local rescues, you would be doing everyone a good turn by taking in some piggies needing new home.

I already know where I am getting them from but don't have them yet. I am trying to find the perfect hutch for them. :)

I got one of these for my boys...

http://www.countrywidefarmers.co.uk/pws/ProductDetails.ice?ProductID=12653

It's 6ft by 2ft and 4ft off the ground. Solidly built, and will be easy for me to insulate + make a waterproof cover for come winter.

I know at it's full price it's rather expensive - but they often have sales and large discounts so if you've got a bit of time keep your eyes open. I got mine for £130 and free delivery.

That hutch from Countrywide farmers looks a really good buy. I cannot tell the quality but it is quite high off the ground. Hutches like that are difficult if not impossible to find in shops.

Hi everyone.
I can make any size hutch you require and at sensable prices from top quality materials.
I have only ever got 100% reviews on my hutches.
My hutches come with 15" legs as standard and also have plastic caps on the bottom too.
The hutch man

I can't afford to spend £170 on a hutch unfortunately.
At the moment it is looking easier to buy a hutch like the dandelion One from pets at home and putting it on something like a table or storage box.
Anyone done this? Need to find something strong and stable enough..

Would something like this be suitable if i was to shut them in the top half at night?

Thank you @Popcornpiggy, looks good but ideally want something a little bigger.seems like I'm looking for the impossible!

I need it to fit 2 guinea pigs, so no smaller than 120 cm long

Tell you what my friend if it helps I can do a 5ft x2ft x approx 20" high for you for £100 and I will personally deliver it for free to you.
I'm happy to help!
All my hutches come with tower bolts and plastic caps on their feet to stop splintering and rising moisture.
If this is ok please drop me a line at [email protected]

Sorry, yes I make runs folding or non folding. Just let me know what size you had in mind?
Thank you
