Hi everyone,
I've had my two boys in an outside hutch now for a few weeks.
However, I'm not sure if I'm using it there advantage and if I've got things in the right place.

Below is how I lay it out so please advise if I need to be doing anything better.
1. I place newspaper all over the bottom, I'm lucky to get the free METRO as I commute to work.
2. I then place hay into the bedding area with one of those large wooden tunnels on top form them to snug into.
I leave the play area just with uncovered newspaper and fill with toys and hay stuffed into

Just finished my hutch!

Hi everyone again,

I have had my two boys in an outside hutch now for a few weeks.
However, I’m not sure if I'm using it there advantage and if I've got things in the right place.

Below is how I lay it out so please advise if I need to be doing anything better.
1. I place newspaper all over the bottom, I'm lucky to get the free METRO paper as I commute to work.
2. I then place hay into the bedding area with one of those large wooden tunnels on top form them to snug into.
I leave the play area just with uncovered newspaper and fill with toys and hay stuffed into cardboard tubes etc.
3. They have a hay-feeding box with fresh hay attached to the inside near their bedding area.
4. I also place the water and nuggets in a bowl near the bedding area in case they want to chill more.
5. When feeding daily veg I normally open the door to their bedding area and place it nearby.

Q1. Should I place hay on top of all the newspaper and not leave any exposed?
If so how much hay and do I need anything else like straw pellets?
Q2. Should I be placing their food and water more away from the bedding area?

Many thanks in advance for your replies.

My guinea girls have newspaper and then good quality soft wood shavings and then just a load of hay which they hide in trample down and snuggle in their bed area. Spot cleaned daily for poos and wet shavings.

Mine absolutely love the hay they burrow in it and carry it around on their backs. Wee in it and eat it :vom:. Sleep in it and mainly sit their munching until veggies arrive!
