So, i haven't posted here in a while but I'm back but my parents are kind of maybe going to let my poor piggy live inside in a C&c cage! So, i'm going to make a Powerpoint about comparison and things like that, but I need the BEST facts I can get! Please put down all the good and bad things about both Cc cages and outdoor hutches!

Indoors wins hands down. You don't have to go outside in all weathers which means that you spend more time with your guinea pigs. They can have more room with c & c which means happier pigs.

You will have to commit to a regular cleaning routine to make sure that they don't smell but it's no hardship. :)

Well..

Indoor you can see them more and bond with them easier
Outdoor they get fresh air and sunlight
Indoor is warm in winter
Outdoors is their natural place to live
Outdoors is cold in winter
Indoor they don't get much sunlight which they need

Hehe, thankyou! I'll be collecting more info if anyone has anything else good and stuff like that! :)p

Over the years I have kept guinea pigs outdoors, indoors, in a shed, a mixture of all things, and to be honest the ones that have lived the longest and have been the healthiest and have needed very few if any vet visits have been the ones who have lived outdoors or in a shed. I always ensure outdoor or shed piggies are protected from draughts and rain and make sure they have lots of hay, and by lots I mean I completely fill the hutches with hay.

I love having indoor piggies too, as you do bond with them more and it is much easier to spend time with them during the colder weather. However, my shed piggies (I don't have outdoor piggies during the winter) get a lot of attention and I spend a lot of time in the shed with them. During the summer months I try and get my piggies out in the runs all day, every day, whilst making sure they have shelter from the sun and somewhere to go if it should start to rain. When I kept all of my piggies indoors they definitely got far less run time.

Indoor you won't be trudging in mud and rain every time you go and see them, the garden won't be covered in hay from when you fill up their hutch!

I like to mix things up a bit here ... I think outdoor hutches indoors are the best (change the roof to a MDF board, paint the whole thing to match colour scheme) because they are so sturdy and easy to clean etc. I use C&C outside for my pig runs though!

At this time of year; lack of daylight to go out and see to piggies can be a problem too. It gets dark so early that it's hard to have the amount of time with them you'd like to.

My rabbits are in a shed outdoors all year round but when I'm at work it's difficult to spend a lot of time with them - even though the shed has electrics.

I do plan to put my piggies out in summer though as I have a shed and run spare.

For a lone piggy being indoors and getting interaction and company is essential to me.

Anti-histamines will help combat it if it's not a severe allergy. :)

I have to take them from about March to October because of my eczema. I use the non-drowsy ones because the others knock me out lol.

hehe, thankyou!

Since having animals both inside and outside I greatly prefer inside!

Trudging out in the cold, dark, wind and rain to feed the rabbits, clean them out etc is just THE worst. If I had the space and stuff I would have them indoors no questions asked. During the winter I barely get to see them apart from feeding as their hutch and run is completely covered in tarp to help keep them nice and dry.

me too! I first got S'more and he lived inside for 1 wee..k.... oh wait, nope, 4 days!-.- My mom had gotten an outdoor hutch for him! (I was happy at first because I thought it would be inside my room!) So now in the winter, I get scared of feeding S'more in the dark because his food is in a shed but I have to walk through an "alley" to get to the shed and I bring a torch and still sprint back to the cage! hehe, typical me!mallethead

I have pigs inside and out and tbh the outdoor ones seam to be happier, the indoor pigs have to deal with the stress from a noisy household. I also spend alot of time outside (even in winter --- temps) it is my escape from the kids OH work etc.
I do add tons and tons of bedding when its cold! and lots of covers to keep with cold out at night. If hay/bedding blows around the garden sweep it up!

My three are outdoors during the summer months but I bring them indoors as soon as the temp goes below 10....They are in the living room untill my christmas tree goes up cos where I put their indoor cage is on a stereo cabinet & thats the only place my tree can go! the guineas then go into the spare bedroom for 2 weeks where the sulk cos they dont get as much attention.
They will be back downstairs at the weekend & to be truthfull its more fun watching my guineas antics than watching the repeats on telly!
